Chapter 31!
Later That Day
A few hours had passed, it was time for Elizabeth and Backup to say goodbye to Nonie. After A's death she hadn't been herself. She wouldn't socialize with other students. Some days she wouldn't even leave her room, Watari had decided to sent her away to another orphanage in America until she turned eighteen. They hadn't told them what state she was going to be located in for safety reasons, but she promised she would write to them both and let them know how she is doing in a few months time.
It was a short goodbye, Nonie didn't want a fuss. She wanted to get away from orphanage. But before she left she gave Elizabeth a package, she told her that she had found it duct tapped underneath A's bed when she was helping to box up his belongings. There was also a letter for Backup and Nonie, but she didn't say much about them. Elizabeth waved Nonie off with Backup, she watched the taxi driving down the driveway. She envied her friend, she wished she was going with her. She walked back to the orphanage with Backup, he told her he would come and find her later because he needed to be somewhere. She watched Backup hurrying along the corridor, he then disappeared from her sight.
Looking at the package in her hand she decided to head back to her room, she wanted to see what A had left her underneath his bed. Elizabeth headed to her room and closed the door behind her, she was soon opening the package. There was a letter inside the box and a cassette tape. She sat down on her bed and opened the letter next, the first thing she noticed was A's tidy handwriting. A's handwriting was pretty, it was fancy with curls and old styled letters. She read through the letter he had written her, she sighed deeply to herself. He had written that he was sorry that he had to leave her, he didn't want to go but he didn't have a choice. He promised that he would watch over her until they met again in another lifetime. She took the cassette tape from the box, it said on the back of it to collect her old Walkman from Backup. She was surprised to read that Backup had her walkman, he must have stolen it from her room.
" Backup, I should have known..." Elizabeth said
Elizabeth left her room and hurried along the corridor, she hoped that her Walkman hadn't been sent to the attic with A's belongings. It wasn't long until she was standing outside Backup's room, she knocked it and waited for him to answer. She soon heard the door unlock, she soon saw Backup peeping his face through the gap between the door frame. He had a room on the same floor has Elizabeth now, he wouldn't be able to move back into his old room for a few more weeks yet.
" May I help you?" He asked in a low tone. " I'm very busy, please be quick!"
" I didn't know if you would be in your room yet, but I need to ask you something." Elizabeth said. " Do you have my walkman? There was a letter from A in the package Nonie gave me. It said come to you for my walkman."
" Im guessing you've read the letter Alternative had left you, I knew you would be coming to my room soon to collect your walkman..." He replied, he opened the door wide. " I've put new batteries in it for you. All you need to do is listen to that tape you have in your hand. I'm curious about the countenance of that cassette tape. May I listen to it too?"
" I'm not sure, you'll have to wait until I've listened to it first." Elizabeth replied." Then I'll decided if you can listen to it or not, but for now will you please give me my walkman back."
" Of course, please wait in the corridor." He smirked.
Backup closed the door slightly and disappeared back into his room, she heard rustling sounds coming from his room. She took a quick peep through the gap in the doorway, his room was dark. There were papers scattered across the floor and also there was a weird smell coming from his room. She quickly stepped away from the door when she heard footsteps heading towards her. Her attention was soon caught by some girls laughing from the other end of the corridor, she recognised them straight away.
