Chapter 20!

Christmas had come and gone, it was now a new year. It had been Elizabeth's first seasonal holiday she had spent without her Aunt and Rose around. The holiday with the children at the orphanage had been different, but she had enjoyed it. Watari had given all of the children Christmas presents, he's a very kind and thoughtful man. He had called Elizabeth to one side on Christmas morning, he had given her a little box which contended her Mum's butterfly necklace. Her Aunt Thora had given it to him for safe keeping, he told her that she had delivered the necklace to the orphanage the year before with a copy of her Aunt's Will. She must have known she didn't have long left, she had arranged everything in secret without her knowledge

Taking her biology and chemistry books from the bed she got ready for her first lesson of the day, it began at 9:30am. Elizabeth hung her bag over her shoulder and left her room, she then made her way down the corridor. The science lab was on the other side of the building, she had met up with A and Nonie at the bottom of the staircase in the main hallway. They always walked to class together on Monday mornings.

Nonie had calmed down since the prank she had pulled on Elizabeth last year, she had even been nice to her on the odd occasion. She was only being nice to her because A was with them, but she had caught Nonie glaring at her in lessons with a cruel expression on her face sometimes. She mostly sat with Backup in classes which is even worse. She had overheard them talking about horrible things once in class, they had been talking about how many ways you can kill a person with a knife.

Today was different, it seemed like Nonie wasn't joining them in science class. She was going to spend some of the morning with Watari in his office. A had told her that she was going to take some IQ tests, apparently she had been doing really well in criminology class. He thought that she may have a chance of becoming the third successor of L, but they wouldn't know until her IQ test results were back.

They said goodbye to Nonie before they walked into the science lab, they took their seats at the back of the classroom and took out their exercise books. Elizabeth leaned on her hand while she looked over at the wall clock above the teacher's desk, it was now 9:19am. A sneezed which caught her attention, he wiped his nose on some toilet roll and took his pen from his pocket. A few other students entered the classroom, they also took their seats and talked quietly amongst themselves.

" Do you have a cold coming?" Elizabeth asked.

" No, I just got a whiff of someone's perfume..." A replied before he put his toilet roll back in his denim jacket pocket. " It smells terrible, can't you smell it? The perfume's scent is like roses and lemons mixed together. It smells like the window cleaner they use in the corridors."

" I can't smell anything, you must be imagining weird scents again." Elizabeth replied. " Maybe they've cleaned the windows in the classroom this morning or one of the other students ate some fruit before they came to class."

" No I'm not imagining anything, someone in this class smells weird..." A said, he got up from his chair and looked around the room. " I'm going to open a window, the smell is kind of making me feel nauseous. I'll be back in a bit."

A walk over to the window and opened the it wide, he then stuck his head out of the window. Elizabeth sniffed at piece of her hair before she twirled it around her finger. Her hair smelt like lemons, he must be able to smell her new shampoo the orphanage had given her. She sprayed herself with some vanilla perfume from her bag and quickly put it away when A returned to the table, she then opened her book.

" She takes after me you know, intelligence runs in my family." A said while he drummed his pen against his book. " Well maybe not after me, it must come from my Father's side. He was chemist at the hospital in Stafford, he had degrees in biochemistry and medicine."
