*Sapnap's perspective*

"Do you have to leave?"

The soft spoken words floated through the air, and when Sapnap looked over, he saw Karl, still lying in bed and pouting as he looked up at Sapnap. The last thing he wanted to do was leave Karl, but he knew he had no choice because it still wasn't safe for him to be hanging around the city.

And he also knew that he couldn't risk leaving George and Dream alone for much longer. He had already been gone for longer than he had planned, but his need to see Karl had outweighed his need to monitor things between George and Dream. He was just praying that they hadn't spent the entire time fighting and threatening to kill each other.

"I'm sorry, Karl," Sapnap hummed back quietly, moving his hand to push back Karl's mess of brown hair, "I have to get back before Dream actually follows through and kills George."

Karl's head fell back against the pillow with a quiet groan, and he tipped his head back in Sapnap's direction as he replied, "I don't think he'd actually hurt him, Sap. You worry too much, Dream just needs time. But I bet he still loves George."

Sapnap only shrugged, because he had absolutely no idea what was going on in Dream's head. He was so difficult to read, and he was so unwilling to give anything away. But Sapnap knew that Dream at least still cared about what happened to George, he had seen it first hand when George had gotten injured. For at least a moment, Dream was back to his old self, paying careful attention and making sure that George had gotten the help that he needed. But still, Dream was too unpredictable at the moment, and Sapnap couldn't risk anything going wrong in the confines of the safe house.

"And I love you, so you should stay here with me," Karl quietly continued, batting his eyelashes in Sapnap's direction.

Sapnap smiled, leaning down and catching Karl's lips in a slow kiss. When he pulled back, he responded, "I love you, too. But I still have to go. I'll be back soon though, okay?"

Karl frowned up at him, but nodded anyway, and Sapnap kissed his forehead before standing up from the edge of the bed. He hated that he had to leave Karl and go back to the safe house, and he felt a sinking feeling in his chest at the sight of Karl all alone as he left. If he could stay forever, he would, and he couldn't wait for the day when he'd finally be able to.

As he drove back out of the city and towards the safe house, Sapnap found himself praying that he hadn't made a mistake by leaving for the night. At the time, it seemed like it might be helpful to give George and Dream some space, but now he was second guessing himself. But Dream wouldn't actually hurt George, and that was the only thing keeping his mind at bay.

Pulling up to the house, Sapnap felt a surge of nervous anticipation. The house was strangely quiet as he opened the front door, much too quiet given the late morning hour. Slowly, he made his way through the front room of the house and towards the kitchen, and he stopped dead in his tracks as he walked through the arched doorway.

George and Dream were sitting down at the kitchen table together eating breakfast, as it were something they did every single morning. Their eyes flitted over to Sapnap as he walked further into the room, and Sapnap raised an eyebrow as he slowly asked, "what's going on here?"

He waited for someone to speak, and finally, George shrugged and answered, "we're eating, what does it look like?"

Sapnap's eyes narrowed, because something felt off. It was too strangely domestic given the situation, especially considering the two had spent all of their time recently fighting.

"Yeah, I can see that," Sapnap shot back, "but you're eating together? At the same table?"

Both George and Dream nodded, and when neither offered up any more words, Sapnap tried another question, "alright. Well, what did you two do while I was gone?"
