1 year later

*Sapnap's perspective*

It was a Monday morning, and Sapnap was seated behind the large desk that had been officially his for the past year. There were still some subtle traces of Dream around the large office; his sloped handwriting scattered over old documents and business deals, and a photograph of Sapnap and him from when they were younger that was displayed on the corner of the desk. But for the most part, the office finally felt much more familiar to Sapnap, and much more like his own.

After dealing with Technoblade one year ago, Sapnap had let the dust settle for a few weeks. And then as planned, he had offered the position of mafia leader back to Dream. He figured enough time would have passed for Dream to step back into the role, and especially now that he had George by his side. But to the entire team's surprise, Dream had turned it down without so much as giving it a second thought.

Left with no choice, Sapnap had stayed in the role himself. It had taken time, but he finally felt completely settled in, and he had an amazing team backing him up. He had made Quackity his second in command, Sam remained in charge of security, and Karl was still heading the technology and surveillance team with Niki at his side. Tommy and Tubbo had even decided to join their team, and they were being fully trained by each group within the team until they decided exactly what it was they wanted to do.

Overall, Sapnap didn't think there was anything else he could ask for. Things had settled down, and they were back to business as usual as far as he was concerned. Everything finally felt right with the world.

With a satisfied sigh, Sapnap leaned back in his chair. A soft knock at the door dragged his attention over, and he felt a smile melt onto his face as the door opened to reveal Karl.

Karl walked in with two coffees in hand, a white pastry bag pinned between his fingers and the to-go cup in his left hand. From where he was sitting, Sapnap could already see the neon colored post-it note that was adhered to the front of the pastry bag, Karl's familiar handwriting adorning the paper in what he knew to be honeyed words meant just for him. Karl smiled as he approached, setting down the pastry bag and one of the steaming cups of coffee, leaning over to kiss Sapnap as soon as his hands were free.

"Good morning, my beloved husband," Karl spoke in soft, loving tones, and he lowered himself onto the edge of Sapnap's desk as he added on, "and happy anniversary."

Sapnap's smile grew larger, and he reached for Karl's hand, bringing it to his lips and kissing the top of it as he responded, "happy anniversary, Karl."

It had been six months since the two of them had been married, and it was still easily the best day of Sapnap's life. True to his promise, he had returned the ring he had found on the pavement near Karl's car, only to replace it with an engagement ring a few weeks after that. After everything they had been through, Sapnap didn't want to waste any more time not being married to Karl.

Now, they lived together in Karl's apartment, and it felt so much more like home than Sapnap's own apartment ever had.

"Don't forget," Karl hummed back happily, "you promised to leave work early so we can go out and celebrate."

"Don't worry, Karl," Sapnap answered with a soft laugh, "you're my first priority, always."

He watched Karl's face flush pink, and his own body grew warm with appreciation at the sight of it. He had already planned out an entire night that Karl didn't even know about yet. It had been planned for months, and there was no chance of him ever forgetting about something like this.

Karl leaned forward and moved a hand to Sapnap's face, and Sapnap hummed happily as he leaned forward to catch his lips in a kiss. When he pulled back, he was smiling, and Karl's hand moved to brush dark hair out of his eyes as he asked, "have you talked to Dream or George recently?"
