When Dream had agreed to help, George hadn't been too sure what to expect. In his mind, 'helping' would have meant that Dream was a bystander while George did most of the dirty work. Their personalities had always been contrastingly different in that way.
What he most certainly hadn't predicted was Dream being more than prepared to do the majority of the actual work. As soon as they were left alone with the hostages, it was like a switch had been flipped and Dream became a different person. His expression shifted to the blank coldness that George was growing used to, and all George could really do was step to the side as he watched Dream pull a switchblade from his pocket and flip it open.
If it had been anyone else in the room besides George, they would have probably been more than a little scared watching Dream work. But George had done far worse things, things he sometimes couldn't even voice out loud. He had no room to judge, and so he didn't. He also knew that Dream had a lot of pent up anger to let out, and who better to let it out on then the team that was solely responsible for it in the first place.
Between the two of them, it didn't take long to pull the information they needed from the hostages. In the most twisted way possible, their styles complimented each other well. And at the end of it all, with Technoblade's men extremely bloodied and bruised, George wondered how Dream wanted to leave them. If he had it his way, he'd kill them without even giving it a second thought. But he wanted Dream to have the final say, and so he decidedly kept his mouth shut.
George stepped back as he watched Dream clean off the switchblade, wiping the blood from his hands while an unreadable expression took over his features. He took a few steps closer, placing a hand on Dream's shoulder to get his attention. Dream's eyes lifted, and as they rested on George, he could see the slow shift behind his jade eyes. Dream's face softened, and he even managed a small grin as he held George's gaze.
"We make a good team," Dream mumbled quietly, and George breathed out a laugh as he nodded in agreement.
George's mind drifted back to the day that Dream had been in the hospital, when he was sitting around Dream's bed with Sapnap, and with a smile, he quietly muttered, "dream team, right?"
Dream nodded, his smile growing a bit larger as he looked down at George. And as George looked up at him, he realized that maybe the changes in Dream weren't all that bad. He could handle seeing Dream at his worst if it meant he also got little moments like these. Dream could be as careless and ruthless as he wanted when it counted, but he still seemed to reserve a certain softness for George and George only.
George's eyes shifted over to the tied up hostages. One was slumped over in the chair, and if it weren't for the barely visible rise and fall of his chest, George would have sworn he was already dead. But the other one was conscious, taking shallow breaths and waiting to find out their fate.
George raised an eyebrow as he looked back up at Dream, wordlessly asking the question that was lingering in the back of his mind. Dream held his gaze for a moment longer, then gave George a small grin as he muttered, "just one last thing I need to do, then we can get out of here."
George nodded, and his eyes dropped towards Dream's hand as the blonde stepped away from him. He watched Dream's hand tighten around the handle of the switchblade, and in a few strides, Dream was approaching the hostage and leaning down over him.
In one swift movement, Dream shoved the blade deep into the man's side, and a pained scream rang through the room. Leaving the blade lodged where it was, Dream grabbed the man by jaw, dropping his voice dangerously low as he said, "if by some miracle Techno finds you alive, give him a message for me, would you?"
Dream waited until the man's eyes were on him, and George could tell he was struggling to even keep them open. But Dream paid it no mind, and he continued by saying, "tell him that I'm only just getting started, and I don't plan on stopping until he's lying dead in front of me."
