*Katie is 13*

It's finally summer break! School has been dragging on but now I graduated elementary school.

I walk home from school to see Will and Jay both sitting at the table talking.

"Hey!" I say and walk over.

"Hey squirt! How was the last day?" Will asks

"Yeah good! The graduation ceremony took all day though.." I grumble.

They both smirk a little and mess up my hair.

"Go put on a swimsuit! We're going to the beach to celebrate being done with elementary and the beginning of summer!" Will says.

I don't answer and just sprint upstairs to get changed. I haven't been to the beach in so long! After I'm changed I go back downstairs to see them both packing a cooler to take along.

"Ready to go squirt?" Jay asks once he sees me.

I nod my head vigorously before running out to his truck. I hear their laughs behind me but ignore them.

On the way to the beach Will starts playing music and the three of us sing our hearts out. Moments like this is what makes my life special. I don't have parents around but I have brothers who are annoyingly stupid sometimes but they love me and put up with me throughout all my shit.

We arrive at the beach and quickly jump out of Jays truck. They both grab a handle of the cooler while I grab the bag with all our towels packed in it and we find an empty spot to sit.

I lay out the three towels while they both crack open a beer.

I look at them in confusion. "Uhh whose driving is home?" I ask.

"I am that's why I'm gonna drink slowly and only have a few, I'll let Will get shitfaced for once in his life if he wants." Jay says with a chuckle.

Will just scowls at him while taking a sip of his beer. I giggle lightly and my brothers antics. I don't think I've ever seen Will get drunk before, he's the responsible one out of the two of them.

I lay down on my towel and try to tan while my brothers bicker in the background. Soon their talking turns into whispers which makes me a bit suspicious but I ignore it.

Bad idea. Before I know it I'm in the air over Jays shoulder as he's running towards the water.

"No! Jay stop! Don't you dare throw me i-" My words are cut off by me landing in the water. I push myself out of the water and glare at Jay, who might I add, is doubled over in laughter.

"Really? Every single time!? Why!?" I say trying to act mad but can't hold back the smile growing on my face.

Jays laughing is contagious I guess and soon enough I'm laughing along with him. People probably think we're crazy but who cares?

The two of us finally make our way out of the water still chuckling lightly and make our way over to Will whose laughing at us.

I get and idea on my head and look over at Jay with a small smirk. He looks at me confused. I get a big smile on my face before running over to Will and hugging him tightly getting him and his towel soaked.

"Katie! Aww cmon, it was funny when you got thrown in but not cool getting me wet." He says with a small glare.

I smile innocently at him and flick his head before heading over to my towel again. "What's the point in coming to the beach if your not going to get wet dumbass?" I ask.

He goes to reply but stops himself and sighs. I laugh a bit and fist bump Jay.

"You know at the beginning of every summer mom and dad would bring us to the beach, celebrate another school year done, have some family time. The last time we did that was when mom was pregnant with you." Will says while looking out at the water.

"I wish I had more time with her.. I don't really remember her that much.." I say sadly.

"Wanna hear a story about mom?" Jay asks.

I whip my head over to look at him as a smile grows on my face. "I would love to!"

"Alright uhh ooo Will how about the time when we snuck out to go to a party?" Jay says with a small laugh.

"Oh god." Will says with a groan and rubs his head before beginning the tale.

"Will mom is going to kill us!" Jay shouts at his older brother. They were both at a high school party that had just gotten busted by the cops. Apparently the neighbors complained about a noise complaint.

"I know that dumbass! And if she doesn't dad for sure will! We're in a fucking jail cell right now!" Will yells back before putting his head in his hands.

They both decided to sneak out to a party, are both drunk, and sitting in a jail cell. They're gonna get killed.

"Halsteads! Your parents are here!" An officer shouts before letting them out of the cell and guiding them to a room where they see two very pissed off looking parents.

"What the hell we're you two thinking!? Sneaking out to a party that got busted by cops!?" Their dad shouts.

They both hang their heads embarrassed at the states they're receiving.

"Pat calm down a bit, let's go out to the car and talk this out." Their mom said calmly.

Their dad sighs and storms out of the station. Jay looks up at his mom. "I'm sorry mom, we didn't know it was going to get that bad.." Jays says softly.

"Yeah mom, we are really sorry.." Will says.

Their mom sighs before pulling them both into a hug that they happily accept.

"Here." She says handing them a bottle of axe. "Don't let your father smell the alcohol on you or he'll lose his shit." She says with a chuckle before walking out of the station to the car.

"Mom always had our backs, no matter how stupid we were, or how upset she was with us, she was still there for us." Will says.

I smile softly while looking down sadly. My heart pains after hearing the memories they got to have with mom.

They must've noticed my sad look because they both move closer and Will lifts up my chin with his hand making me look him in the eyes.

"Hey squirt don't do that.. Moms up there looking over us right now." He says while pointing to the sky.

"They both are." Jay says quietly. Jay never had a good relationship with dad but he still wished they could've had more time and made up.

"I know they are.. they're probably laughing right now at the memory of you two idiots." I say with a chuckle.

They both laugh lightly while they both kiss my forehead softly.

I smile and stand up before turning around and looking at them with a mischievous look. "You're it" I say while hitting Will and running away laughing.

I hear laughter behind me while I see Jay start running and Will chasing after him.

I may not have my parents but I wouldn't trade my life for the world. I love my brothers, they always know how to lighten the mood and quite frankly how to always throw me in the lake but that's beside the point.
