A/N: Don't know if anybody noticed but Y/N said Natasha was like God to her and she lives in a former church. I was so proud of that 😂
----------------
The church was a traditional catholic structure: tall stained glass windows, religious paintings, and statues everywhere. The aisles were decorated with white flowers but didn't cover the cross that was carved into each of the wooden benches. They sat me and Natasha down on the 3rd bench on the right, behind the groom's family.
"Do you want a wedding like this?" Natasha says looking up to the art on the ceiling.
"No, I want to get married in Vegas by an Elvis impersonator," I joke, She flashes me a smile before going back to admiring the structure.
"The groom would like to see you," Steve whispers into my ear.
Eden was getting ready in one of the back rooms, it was brightly lit by the sunshine coming in through the window, he stood looking out to the white and red roses.
"You wanted to see me?" I tread carefully inside.
"I'm getting married," he says almost surprised.
"You are," I laugh.
"And it's not you," he grabs my shoulder softly.
"Eden-"
"I love you more than anything. Just say the words and I'll stop all of this right now, just tell me you love me even if it's the slightest bit," he moves both his hands to grab my face.
"You're getting married to a woman who loves you, I'm sorry I couldn't be that for you, Eden." He drops his hands from my face.
"Do you still love her? After what she did to you?" He raises his voice.
"Why do you still love me after what I did to you?" I say calmly. He rubs his forehead in frustration. "We've both had the bad luck of loving someone who doesn't love us the same."
"I would kill for you Y/N, I would bring down the brightest star for you if you asked, I'll do anything for you. I have loved you since the moment I laid eyes on you. Tell me what I need to do to have you back," I freeze at his confession. He steps towards me and kisses me. It was a quick movement and as soon as I realized I pushed him away.
"What are you doing? You're getting married in minutes," I'm now speaking at a louder volume. He steps closer to me but I take a larger step away from him and he retreats.
"Y/N?" Natasha says standing at the door, her posture made her look taller and intimidating, Steve stands behind her in the same protective way, "We should go back to our seats, it should be starting soon." I walk quickly out of the room and past Natasha. I hear something clatter and break followed by an angry groan from Eden.
"Are you okay?" Natasha grabs my wrist to stop me but I pull away from her grasp.
"Fine," I say making my way back to my seat. If I leave a reporter outside is sure to make up a story and paint me out to look like the jealous ex.
The music starts and Eden walks out with his best man. Eleanor walked down the aisle with her baby son in her hands as the flower boy and then the bride stepped into view from the back. She was beautiful and the dress made her more so. I watched as she walked down the aisle, her smile was beaming and her eyes never left Eden. I looked to Eden, his eyes bounced between me and his bride. I try not to look in his direction for the rest of her walk.
"Do you Eden Vos, take Harper Kline to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, for sickness and in health, until death do you part?" Eden hesitates and turns his head to look at me, I give him a single nod to encourage him to say yes.
"I do," I see him mouth. The priest repeats the vows to the bride, She turns her head also to look at me. I turn to look at Natasha and out of panic kiss her lips.
"What was that for?" She smiles. The priest invites the groom to kiss the bride.
"You-, I" I give up on trying to make an excuse, thankfully the cheers for the newlywed couple are loud enough for her not to notice. They looked happy, as they should but their body language was distant from each other.
"I don't think I'll go to the party," I say to Natasha over all of the cheerings.
"Good, I didn't want to go anyway," she says, my eyes were fixed on the huge golden cross that hung at the front of the church. Everyone follows after the couple when they leave but I go in a different direction towards the prayer rooms.
"Exits that way angel," Natasha says sarcastically.
"I need a moment,"
"Okay, I'll wait for you in the car," She was taken aback by my seriousness. I walk back to a red room decorated with crosses and saints, I close the door behind me and go down on my knees in front of a wooden statue of Jesus on the cross.
"Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, I won't apologize for the life I did not allow to grow in me, instead I ask for forgiveness, for the lies and deceit that it made me take apart of. Forgive me for my envy, wrath, lust, and greed." I look at the tear carved in the face of the figure, "Why did you have to send her? For she is why I sin, I worship her. I'd fall to my knees for that woman, and I have. Please, God, guide me to peace, Amen,"
"Didn't think you were the religious type," Natasha says to me back at the car.
"Only God can help me in these times," I joke.
"Let me help you," Her hand slides high on the inside of my thigh. My stomach clenches up. I grab her hand move it down my thigh and cross my legs. I give her an awkward smile and turn to face the window. She grabs my chin and carefully turns my head to look at her. She goes in for a kiss but I dodge it. She looks at me confused and retreats back in her seat.
