"Y/N, Please come in," My mom invites me into the Oval. She quickly finishes typing a sentence and stands up to join me on the couches.

I feel her disapproving eyes stare at me as I pour myself a drink.

"You look tired," She says, crossing her arms.

"Oh you always know what to say, to make me feel great," I say sarcastically, lifting the drink to my mouth.

"Eden has sent something for you," She ignores my comment, she reaches to the side and puts the small box on the table between us. I open the card that sat on top.

"That's weird, It's not even close to my birthday"

My dearest y/n,

I hope you like the gift, I decided to go all out for possibly the last one I send. As you may know I have met a woman, I plan on asking her to marry me. You would love her, she reminds me of you in many ways. However, It did not feel right to give her the ring I had made for you so I am gifting it to you. Do with it what you want, I just wanted you to have it. I will send an invitation as soon as we set a date. Thank you Y/N.

Eden Vos

The ring was similar to the one Grace Kelly wore in High Society with some added diamonds. I casually mentioned that I liked it when we first watched the movie. It was what he used to propose to me both times.

"Is he-"

"He's getting married," I interrupt my mom.

"Well, that's a good thing isn't it?"

"Yes, It's amazing," I plaster on a fake smile.

"It's a beautiful ring," She says once I put it down.

"It should've been me," I whisper.

"He's found a woman that loves him Y/N, be happy for him."

"I don't mean marry to him, I am happy for him I just thought-"

"You thought you would be the one getting married,"

I look out the window to the trees and cloudy morning sky.

"How have you been healing from what happened with Natasha?"

"It's been more than a year, I don't care anymore."

"Maybe you've convinced yourself that you don't but you still keep her clothes in your closet, you visit Melissa (Harris) more often than before, I'm guessing because you want to run into her because you do care, you want to see her." She reaches her hand out to give me something, I grab it without opening my hand to see what's inside, "It's not a good idea to try to get over her by engaging in... activities with the person that loves you the way you love her. You don't want to lose them too." I look at the item she put in my hand, the engraved angel wings shine on the tiffany ring.

"Thank you," I whisper. She reaches over to the table and pours herself a cup of tea.

"I'm worried about you,"

"Don't be, I'm okay,"

"You're drinking and it's not even noon," She points out, I gently place the glass on the center table.

"I have a lot of things going on, a new center is opening. I just have a lot of work to do,"

"We can hire someone to help yo-"

"No mom, I'm more than capable," I interrupt, She pours me a cup of tea.

"What's going on with Natashas announcement?" I could tell this is why she called me in.

"I'm getting overwhelming support from the media. Julien sent over a lovely basket the other day, my apartments littered with flowers from friends, but mostly dad and uncle Stark," I laugh.

"They're looking for the woman you know," She plops in a sugar cube in my tea.

"That's not really my concern at this point, is it?" I say picking up the cup.

"Natasha's already started getting some criticism," She takes a sip.

"She didn't have to say that she cheated, It was her decision to do that. I was fixing it, she brought this upon herself," I try to stay calm.

"She did it for you to forgive her," She puts down her half-empty teacup, "You both have gone way too long without talking about this, She obviously wants you to reach out. She made a very public apology to you,"

"Or she knew it was going to get out sooner or later and decided to rip off the bandage herself," I scoff.

"Why do you assume a woman like her doesn't know how to contain something like that? Why do you think she was so reckless with the women she had relations with previous to you?" She studies the book in her hand. "I mean a caterer would surely gather a lot of money from exclusive interviews detailing her night with Senator Natasha Romanoff, but they haven't. Why do you think that is?" She moves her reading glasses to the top of her head and waits for me to answer, "She didn't get to where she is by making stupid little mistakes, my love. She's an extremely smart woman so talk to her and find out why she made this decision."

"I don't owe her anything," I say quietly.

"No, you don't but as I said she's a smart woman who knows how to get what she wants,"

"So am I," I say defensively.

"Precisely, so do what you were taught and get what you want, whatever that may be," She picks up the teacup again, "I have a meeting soon, I trust you you make a good decision.... On all, we have discussed,"
