"What's this?" Natasha says picking up the white envelope.

"Oh it's a wedding invitation, Edens getting married,"

"Are you going?"

"I am going to be very embarrassed but yes I am,"

"Why would you be embarrassed?"

"Because...." I stop and think about my word. Because I left him for you and we're not even together. "It's always awkward to have the ex around," I say instead.

"It's a couple of months," She says reading the invitation. "You're going alone?"

"No, the secret service always keeps me company," I joke.

"What if I go with you? It would be nice to see him again,"

"You guys hate each other," I point out while I pull on my shoe.

"Well, we were friends until..." she lifts her eyes to look at me and doesn't finish her sentence.

"You can come with if you'd like. It's a small wedding though, less than 100 people I'm told. It's going to be in their summer home in Scotland," I say looking in the mirror, I hate how the shoes looked so I take them off and look for another pair.

"Why are you changing so much? It's a state dinner,"

"Devin is going to be there, and that twink always tries to show me up and I need all the attention of the celebrities that are going to be there," I say through my teeth.

"We're already late," She looks down at her watch, I see her grab something from the vanity and she walks it over to me. "This matches perfectly," she puts on the gold Gucci flower pearl necklace. She puts her hands on my bare shoulders and looks at me through the mirror, "you look perfect," she says.

We've been spending lots of time together but our friends usually joined, when we were alone there were no flirty glances or touches. We had regular sleepovers, regular lunches. We were friends, regular friends.

"Nice dress," Devin says when he spotted me.

"Nice suit," I was surprised to see he wore a basic black suit with minor silver details.

"It gets better," He says pulling on something on the shoulder, my mouth drops as a satin cape flows down from his shoulders. "I think I see Anna Wintour," I turn my head quickly and see her greeting the attorney general. Devin and I walk quickly to catch up to her.

"Move faggot I need a cover," I say slightly nudging him to the side.

"You move carpet muncher, Id looks better on the cover," I stop walking and so does he.

"My mother's the president," I state as if it was a competition.

"I was in Time Magazine," he says back.

"I was on the cover," I brag before turning back in Annas direction but she was gone. "Where'd she go?"

"Look for a bob," Devin says with his hands out and looking around the crowd.

"You guys look like lost puppies," Wanda says with Sydney on her arm.

"Bitch is that Cate Blanchett," Devin says shaking my shoulders. We look at each other for a second and then start running in the direction of the blonde.

-----

"you said it was Cate Blanchett," I say to Devin as I sit down at the table next to Wanda.

"It was an Australian woman I was close enough," He says arguing.

"It's a state dinner for Australia dumb ass half of the women in here are Australian," Turned out that who we spotted was just an Australian diplomat, but she did strongly resemble Cate Blanchett. "Wheres Natasha?" I ask noticing she wasn't at the table.

"I don't know she got up to get a drink a while ago," Sydney says. I get up to look for her.

"Y/N?" a voice calls out to me.

"Kate," I squeal, " I haven't seen you since high school."

"Yeah, my mom sent me to New York after the bell incident," We both hum at the memory.

"What are you doing here?" I ask.

"My mom's fiancee has some friends in politics and they invited us,"

"Hey," Natasha approaches us, "May I have another one of these please?" She hands her glass to Kate, whose black tux did somewhat resemble those of the workers. I take the glass from her.

"Nat this Kate Bishop, her mothers the head of Bishop Security," I introduce.

"Oh, I'm sorry, " Natasha apologizes as she holds her hand out for a handshake, "I'm Senator Romanoff,"

"We were great friends in high school," I explain.

"She got me in trouble all the time," Kate nudges me.

"No, you just never backed down from a dare," I laugh. "Come, I want to introduce you to Sydney and Devin," I pull Kate toward the table. I introduce her and they start getting along just fine.

"Remember those pigs you brought in for the Senior prank," Devon says to Sydney as we recall our high school pranks.

"That was you," Kate screams surprised, "We got blamed for that and had to clean up pig shit from the soccer field," She laughs.

"We were only out there for a maximum of 3 minutes because our moms called and threatened to sue for child endangerment," I laugh. I look around the table to look for Nat, She wasn't there. I don't remember if she even followed us back to the table. I look around the room for her, I finally see her in a corner standing very close to a nicely dressed blonde woman. Her hand was around her waist and they inched closer together as they laughed. 'It's probably nothing' I try to convince myself and return my attention to the conversation. After a while, she returns to the table and says her goodbyes.

"Leaving so soon?" Sydney says.

"I have to get up early for work, you know how it is," She says back. I watch as she walks toward the blonde and they exit together.

"She wasn't on the cover of Time," Devin leans over to whisper in my ear. I force a smile on my face, I can't allow myself to be jealous. We're friends, just friends. Well...maybe not.

"Excuse me," I say to the table and go out into the lonely hall.

"Hi, It's time for the favor," I say to the person on the other line.

"No, not this time but I need you to start a kill file," I hear footsteps approach me, I smile at Devin though he looks back at me with a worried face.

"Senator Natasha Romanoff, If she so much as littered I want to know about it," he seems almost frozen by my words, "Thank you, send it where you usually do," I walk past him and go back to the party.
