Chapter 20 : Fall Out

"Our every attempt led us to a dead-end. What is more frustrating is that everyone somehow wants us to stop searching for Natalie. Why do they want it? Are they also involved in this somehow? Are you listening, or do you think I'm babbling nonsense?" Exasperated, Sasha asked the last question to her friend, who only sighed in response.

Sitting on the sofa, (y/n) was in deep thought thinking about what happened last night. Her whole world turned upside down within an hour, and now she was at a loss, trying to gather up her thoughts but failed miserably.

Except for Levi, Reiner was the only one with whom (y/n) was ever in a serious relationship. Her heartfelt love for Reiner was not some mere talk only; it was a commitment to life. In a romantic novel, the hero & heroine, after tedious hardships, got their happily ever after in the end, likewise (y/n) thought she & Reiner meant to be together & her happiness doubled when she found herself pregnant.

Alas, the joy was short-lived as the dreams turned to nightmares, compassion lost, love vanished from life & leaving only the bitter memories of abandoned love. Accepting their relationship ended so quickly was hard enough when one day she found herself lying on a hospital bed & the doctor told her how she had lost her unborn child and would never conceive again.

Those who knew this truth were only Jean & Sasha; not even (y/n)'s parents were aware of this. Her father's established business closed down, and (m/n) was diagnosed with a critical illness at that time. Already having enough trouble in their life, (y/n) kept her condition secret from them, so they did not worry about the problem caused by her.

The only thought that came to her mind was to stand by her parents, not waste time lamenting her situation.

After accepting Kenny's contract, (y/n) first married Levi, with whom she could not have any illicit romance. The information she got from Farlan about Levi's past life; his cold relationship with Eren was enough to make her realize to be in deep waters. However, the first day (y/n) met with Eren, everything; changed forever.

Eren welcomed her with such warmth, (y/n) thought, if she was his biological mother, not a stepmother. How could she not love this innocent one?

Looking at Eren in her arms, (y/n) made a promise to herself that she would become his mother and rebuild the relationship between Eren & Levi; so when she had to leave Eren, he would not feel lonely.

Gradually, Eren became the apple of (y/n)'s eyes; even Levi was also aware of how much she cared for Eren. However, as days went by, problems started to rise. The information (y/n) brought to Kenny about the prime suspect Ivan was not enough, and her emerging feelings for Levi only added more complications to the situation. And when Levi reciprocated her feelings, their marriage bloomed into mature love.

Then one day, out of the blue, none other than Reiner came back to her and (y/n) torn between her past & present love. On the other hand, was, used as a honey trap, she was able to acquire the information Kenny wanted.

As Kenny assigned her to her last task, which was to sign the divorce papers from Levi, (y/n) had to face the harsh reality from which she was running so long. Though she had to betray Levi, (y/n) was sure not to deceive Reiner anymore.
Not having much time on her hand, (y/n) decided to tell Reiner about her feelings for Levi before Reiner left Trost for a few days.

As per Kenny's order, she had to complete her task within a week & leave the city forever, so it would be her last chance to meet with him. After cancelling the programme to go to the fair, (y/n) left for her parent's apartment with Luna to meet Reiner.

"Oh goodness! You got caught in the rain. Come inside." (y/n) quickly rushed to get a towel as she saw Reiner standing at her doorway drenched with rain.
