Chapter 21: Networking

"Why do you look so troubled?"

"Can't you guess the reason behind my distress, Farlan?" Isabel asked.

Sighing deeply, Farlan answered, "It's about Levi & (y/n), right? I heard (y/n) wants to divorce Levi because her ex-boyfriend Reiner came back into her life."

"Do you believe this rumour too? As much as I know (y/n), it is hard to believe she cheated on him."

Putting down his cup of café au lait, Farlan looked at Isabel. " As we don't know the real cause of their quarrel, we should not jump to the conclusion so hastily. What bothers me most is Levi's reaction to this incident."

After (y/n) left Levi's home, Levi forbade (y/n) & Eren to meet or even talk. Once again, Krista was in charge of Eren & she ordered to keep Levi updated about Eren's whereabouts and daily routine. Levi's behaviour changed back to being cold & intolerant like he was before he met (y/n).
As the two friends thought about Levi & (y/n), a sudden knock on the door broke the silence in the room. Holding a few files in her hand, Levi's other assistant, Frieda, entered the room.

"Farlan, Mr Ackerman wants to see you in his chamber as soon as possible."

Glancing at Isabel, Farlan muttered, "What is so urgent that Levi wants to see me now?"

"Levi did not call you today, too, did he?" Sarah asked her friend, who tiredly put down her phone.

Lowering her gaze, (y/n) said nothing, only nodding her head in agreement. It's been almost two weeks since that incident happened between them. Not once did her rational mind expect him to contact her after that, but her heart hoped against hope the impossible to become possible.

Feelings of sadness consumed her heart as she remembered Eren's sad face when she told him she would not be able to take him to the fair with Levi. Never did (y/n) do anything that could cause Eren unhappiness, but that day she was responsible for his sorrow. After regaining his health, Reiner started to help Annie to track the human trafficators. Regarding this case, he had to leave the city for a few weeks with Annie & before his departure (y/n) wanted to meet with him for the last time. Though (y/n) never mentioned to Reiner her plan to leave Trost forever, she only wanted to tell him about the relationship between her & Levi.

Astoundingly for (y/n), Reiner knew about her marriage somehow & that confession made the situation more awkward. As she was dying in embarrassment in her mind, Reiner's assurance & understanding of her past actions put her at ease. But thanks to Kenny's backstabbing of her, her relationship with Levi went downhill, and (y/n) was compelled to do what Kenny wanted.

That day she threw the divorce papers & engagement ring in Levi's face & spoke about her extramarital relationship with Reiner. Levi grew silent when (y/n) said the marriage was nothing but a contract to her. It was a real slap for him when she confessed that the intimacy they shared was not because they loved each other but rather to relieve the sexual tension. Enraged, Levi threw her out of the house & ordered Krista not to let (y/n) come near Eren.

"Krista, if this woman ever will come to my house, do not let her in."

" Why are you still standing in the doorway? Get out!"

Tears in her eyes, (y/n) only stared at Eren, who was trying desperately to go to his mother. Before Levi slammed the door on her face, (y/n) saw Eren crying as Kenny held him in his arms with a smirk on his lips.

"(y/n)? Are you listening to me?"

Her train of thoughts stopped as Sasha tapped on her shoulder lightly. Her gaze shifted to the doorway as Jean entered the room, followed by a man. After Sasha served them tea & biscuits, Jean introduced his companion to them.
