Chapter 22 : Secrets & Lies

'Was she that much important to me?'

For the hundredth time, Levi asked himself the same question. Before she barged into his life, his daily routine was very mundane as he could remember. Natalie's betrayal left such a scar in his mind that he neglected his only child, who needed him most then. His monotonous life changed as (y/n) tied the knot with him to protect Eren.

Though his uncle stated the reason behind this marriage was solely to protect Eren's custody, Levi did not once trust Kenny's words. One thing he was convinced, that the woman was not what she showed everyone. Unable to trace what Kenny was up to, Levi decided to keep his new wife at arm's length & appointed Krista to monitor her every action at home.

The plans he once made flew out of the window as her whimsical ideas made him look at life in a new light. Bit by bit, the distance between them faded away & when he eventually realised what he felt for her, a sense of uncertainty & fear darkened his emotions. Even though those thoughts nagged him continuously, he confessed his love to her.

The days they spent together were the happiest ones for him. His long-forgotten wish was to have a family at last fulfilled & lost in the bliss of her company; he made a grievous mistake. If he could find out why she agreed to work with Kenny & what was Kenny's orders for her, the situation might have been different. Day by day, her behaviour towards him & Eren changed, and he brushed off those little yet strong shreds of evidence carelessly.

'"Didn't I just tell you not to close your eyes, (y/n)?" Whispering in her ear, Levi nibbled softly on her earlobe. "You have to watch everything that we are going to do."

Holding her breath, (y/n) slowly opened her eyes to meet with the reflection of their unclad forms. Deliberately, Levi ran his fingertips on the inner side of her thighs & intentionally missed the desired spot.

"I-I can't do this a-anymore. Please s-stop playing." Biting her lips, she begged him.

The feeling of his hands on the sensitive area & him entering inside her in one swift motion brought a loud moan to her lips. As his thrusts became more intense, she felt a familiar wave of pleasure starting to build inside her & her knees felt weak. Though she gripped the edge of the dressing table for support, she sure would have fallen to the floor without Levi holding her from behind.

However, the intense situation halted its progress as (y/n)'s phone rang suddenly. Piqued by this sudden interruption, Levi hurriedly picked up the phone from the dressing table & asked (y/n), "Didn't I tell you to switch off your phone when we are busy like this?"

'Reiner? Is this the man I saw at the hospital & she never told me about?' Levi thought in his mind as he read the caller's name flashed on the screen.

When (y/n) noticed the caller's name, she hastily took the phone away from his hand. After turning off the phone, her lips met his in an ardent kiss, which made him forget about anything else.

"Levi, I want you. Please..." she managed to utter between the fervent kisses.

For a moment, he observed how her eyes darkened with the same carnal desire that he also felt for her. After leaving a love bite on her neck, he replied in a low voice, "I was going to be easy on you today, but after seeing your disobedience, I think you deserve a proper punishment."'

Leaning back on the sofa, Levi closed his eyes to think about those red flags, which he foolishly ignored. The mistakes he made could not be reversible. However, Levi could assess a strategy to prevent the situation from declining even more. His intuitions were telling him that what she represented before everyone was not the whole truth, and Levi wanted to see how much his instincts were right. And to prove it, he called someone to come to this apartment he brought four months ago to gift his wife (y/n).
