 A/N: tw fear of abandonment

A little over a week has passed since I met Camilo. We've run into each other a few times as Tío really wants me to keep the first friend I've made in years. But he's usually busy and we just share a short conversation, exchange hellos, then it's over. I don't know when he comes into town plus with this whole star thing going on, I don't want him to think I'm insane. Or a danger to anyone, or that I'm lying or what if he asks why there's a star on my neck? I have no explanation. Until everything stops, I guess I'll be staying inside once again. That's pretty much all I'm good for anyways.

"Y/N!"

"Yes, Tío?"

"Come here real quick!" He yelled. I heard him humming a little tune that I followed to the room where he stood.

"Is something wrong?" my foot tapping the floor rapidly.

"No, no, no. Nothing is wrong, mi hijo. I just need to get some groceries and thought maybe you would want to come with me?"

"Oh, um- well I don't think that's a good idea. I appreciate it, but you know how it is sometimes." I nervously chuckled feeling my tìo's hands on my shoulders.

"Don't worry, if you really don't want to go, that's fine. But if you're just worried about getting lost or the star thing, I'll be right beside you." I heard him hum a bit to let me know he was serious.

"Alright, fine. You win! Let's get going," Tío was already opening the door when I stopped, "don't leave me alone, ok?" I said before taking the next few steps forward.

"I won't, I'll be right beside you." I smiled, grabbing a small bit of his shirt so I could keep up with him.

People are everywhere. There are way more people than there were the other day. I started gripping onto Pa's shirt a bit more, causing him to pat my hand.

"I'm right here, mi hijo. Nothing to be worried about." We continued walking, me right beside Papa. That's when familiar footsteps started running near me. Then a smooth voice called out,

"Y/N!"

I turned my head to the voice and yelled back, "Camilo!"

Pa started chuckling,
"So that's Camilo, he does look your age. Oh! He's waving at you, Y/N."

I started waving then Pa turned my hand to the direction Camilo was coming from. Me and Papa both couldn't stop laughing then Camilo stopped right in front of us.

"You must be Y/N's padre. My name's Camilo. It's great to meet you, Señor- uhh"

"Señor L/N and it's great to meet you too, Camilo! Mi hijo has said great things about you."

"Papa!" Tío let out his signature chuckle while shaking Camilo's hand before he stopped suddenly.

"What happened?" I asked quietly. Pa just started laughing again and patted my shoulder.

"Your friend is just very gifted, it caught me off guard. That's all." Pa leaned down again, "I'm going to continue shopping, there's a bench a few steps to your right. No one's on it. You and Camilo can sit there and I'll come get you soon, alright?"

I stiffened up a bit before nodding, "Talk to you soon then, enjoy your sHoPpInG." I said while doing jazz hands. Pa and Camilo both started laughing.

"Camilo," my pa started. What is he going to say? What is it? Should I stop him? I heard him move over to Camilo instead of saying it where I could hear it. The only words I heard were,

"leave..Y/N...here...leave"

Pa's footsteps gradually got quieter before I couldn't hear them over the bustling town. No, Pa loves me. He wouldn't leave me, right? He said he wouldn't leave. Where is he going? I moved to the right and sat down on the bench, now expecting Camilo to leave me here but his breathing stayed constant. He then tapped my hand, making me turn my head to face him.

"Are you staying here with me?" I mumbled trying not to cry.

"Of course! I haven't seen you in a bit and we've still got a lot to learn about each other. Like now, I know your last name,"

A small smile fell onto my lips. I'm glad he's staying because I don't know what I'd do if I were alone. Then once again I heard him let out a small huff of air as he smiled too. Wait, the last time he did that he-

"And that you talk about me." And there it is. Gosh, anytime I hear that huff I need to start bracing myself.

"Señor L/N even said it was all good- no, GREAT things!"

"Yeah, so? You have a problem with me fawning over you?" I tried to say as confidently as possible as the blood continued to rush to my cheeks.

That's when Camilo's breath pattern changed, I got him again. It's kind of cute when he gets all flustered. My neck was slowly getting hotter again. I heard him shuffle a bit before taking a breath, "Nope, not one."
Now I'm getting more embarrassed, how is he so good at that?

I wonder how red he is.

"Hey, Camilo?" Camilo shot straight up, he really must not have expected me to say anything.

"Y-Yeah?"

"On a scale from 1-10, how red would you say you are right now?" I grinned as Camilo nervously chuckled.

"Well, I'd say right now I'm right around the six mark but not all the way there yet."

"Way to make it complicated." The grin never left my face as I placed my hand on Camilo's shoulder before lightly punching it.

I scratched my neck hoping there wouldn't be anything different than before, maybe the former star would even be gone. But as soon as I placed my hand on my neck, I burnt my hand. I quickly brought my hand back down to my side with a small hiss.

"Your hand! Are you ok? What happened?" Camilo grabbed my hand, turning it back and forth. I assume he was examining it.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. Nothing to worry yourself over." I let out quickly, bringing my hands to my lap.

"No, it's not fine! Your hand is burnt! We have to get you to Tía Julieta!" He said urgently before grabbing my wrists and pulling me alongside him.

"Camilo, wait!" I pulled my hands out of his grasp, "I'm really fine! I don't need anyone else to treat it, I'll just wrap it up once I get home."

"But-"

"No buts," I said coldly, "Thank you for the thought, I really appreciate it. And that's super nice of you but like I said, I can handle it on my own."

Camilo let out a frustrated huff before pulling on my wrists, leading me back towards the town. We finally made it back to the bench when he asked me,

"So, what's your favorite color?" I let out a small laugh before answering, "F/C, it was my favorite when I was younger."
Camilo let out a small hm in response.

"Mine-"
"What's your-"

We both stopped for a second leaving the area around us very quiet. I think we both realized how awkward it was so again we both started talking at the same time.

"It's nic-"
"Wonderf-"

Then together again we both say,

"You go ahead."

This time we couldn't stop laughing, my smile was so big that it hurt my jaw. Then we both went silent again. This time I raised my hand a bit to signal I was about to say something which gained a small chuckle from Camilo.

"What's your favorite color?" Camilo went quiet for a bit too long, causing me to worry I messed something up.

"Sorry, I completely forgot that we were originally talking about that. My favorite color is yellow, but not obnoxious yellows. You know?" I smiled then heard my Pa's footsteps.

"Papa?" I let out in a hushed voice, causing my Pa to run towards me.

"Yes, mi hijo? What happened?" I didn't say anything, just stood up and hugged him tightly. Leaving both him and Camilo without words. Pa returned the hug before giving me the sleeve of his shirt as a signal to get going.

"Adios, Camilo! Until we meet again!"

"Mhm! Until then." Camilo said with a very loud smile.
