Duncan POV
I sat in the room alone, waiting for the girls and Klaus to finish getting ready. I had already gone to check on Hector, who, as Violet had said, had passed out yet again. Great, I thought to myself. Another reliable adult. I put my head in my hands and sighed. This was really getting to be too much.
I heard the bathroom door click open, and Isadora, Violet and Sunny came out, dressed. I grabbed my clothes and walked into the washroom, locking the door. I stared at myself in the mirror. I could see my cheekbones, and my hair was dusted grey. I couldn't even remember the last time I had taken a proper, warm shower. I closed my eyes and scrubbed the cold water over my face, trying to make the bags under my eyes look smaller. Changing into my clothes, I stepped out to see everyone else sitting in a circle, waiting for me. I sat down between Violet and Klaus.
"So." I ventured.
"Hmm..." Sunny replied.
It was quiet. Then Violet spoke up.
"No point beating around the bush. The home is just getting more and more unstable. We will have to get off. I say we just look for the next convenience store and hop off. Hopefully Hector has some money and we can try getting a ride out of there to...wherever."
She dropped her gaze, and her hair fell in front of her face. I could see her blinking rapidly through her locks. She brought up a hand and roughly wiped her eyes before looking up again. Feeling my stare, she turned to me with a small smile. "Any other ideas?"
Silence again. Putting on a smile, Violet exclaimed cheerily, "Okay, then, we're all in unison! Another adventure!" Sunny giggled at her, and Klaus gave her a weak smile. Isadora looked at me, then tilted her head towards Violet and raised an eyebrow.
"Another adventure!" I said, feeling heat creeping up my neck. "Violet...can I talk to you?"
