"First, you candidates from the Village Hidden in the Sound, knock it off. Who told you you could fight? You want to be failed before we've even begun?" Ibiki barks.
Dozu turns around, "Sorry, it's our first time. Guess we're a little jumpy... sir."
"Hmph." Ibiki smirks, "I'll say this once so listen up. There will be no combat between candidates. No attacking each other without their permission of your proctor. And even then, the use of fatal force is strictly prohibited. Anyone who even thinks of messing with me will be disqualified immediately. Got it?"
It was quiet for a second before Zaku spoke up. "Hmph. No fatal force? That's no fun."
The Chunin upfront chuckle.
"Now, if we're ready, we'll proceed to the first stage of the Chunin exam. Hand over your paperwork. In return, you'll each be given a number. This number determines where you will sit. We'll start the written test once you're all seated.
After Naruto freaks out a little, we all head to the front and get our number and sit where we are supposed to. I sit between a bald guy and a girl with a mohawk.
"Everyone, eyes front. There are a few rules you need to be aware of. And I won't answer any questions. So you better pay attention the first time around. All right. Rule number one is this. The written part of the exam is conducted on a point reduction system. Contrary to what some of you may be used to, you all begin the test with a perfect score of 10 points. One point will be deducted for each answer you get wrong. So if you miss 3, your final score will be 7.
Rule number two. Teams will pass or fail based on the total scores of all three members." There's a small gasping uproar, but no one says anything, until Sakura.
"What? Wait a second. You're saying we all get scored as a team?" She screams, forehead red from where she just banged it on the table.
"Silence! I have my reasons, so shut up and listen. Rule number three. The sentinels you see positioned around the room are there to watch you carefully for any signs of cheating. And for every incident they spot, they will subtract two points from the culprit's score."
"What?" Some guy breathed out, he was sitting on the very edge beside the sentinels.
"Be warned, Their eyes are extremely sharp. And if they catch you five times, you'll be dismissed before the tests are even scored. Anyone fool enough to be caught cheating by the sentinels doesn't deserve to be here."
"I've got my eye on you guys." Kotetsu teases from his seat, causing the group of boys in front of him to gasp and squirm uncomfortably.
"The final question won't be given out until 15 minutes before the end of the testing period. You'll have one hour total." The clock above him seems to tick loudly as it approaches 6 o'clock exactly. "Begin!"
Shuffling of paper and the tapping of pencils are heard. I look over the page and furrow my eyebrows.
Holy hell.
I know I won't have a problem with these, especially with QT-KT on my side, but as I glance around the room I begin to wonder.
Why wouldn't they fail someone immediately if they got caught cheating? Why a two-point deduction?
'Anyone fool enough to let himself be caught cheating by the sentinels doesn't deserve to be here.'
'Show us what exceptional shinobi you can be.'
Ibiki's not the kind to give a written exam at face value, if they wanted someone to give a written exam just about anyone would do. So why Ibiki? I looked into him, he's a master at psychological torture, which is why he's such a good interrogator, so there has to be some kind of psychological double meaning to this.
