Chapter one: Life and Death

An elderly woman stood in her kitchen, which was much too large for simply her. She was wearing a long light blue nightgown and was cleaning the dishes from dinner. She had pixie hair the color of white. She lived in a mansion in Wisconsin, her late husband had insisted on this big house and since his passing, she hadn't the heart to let it go. His name was Tex Jarred Alan, he was only a year older than her and they had a wondrous life together. He was a school teacher, he could teach any subject and be great at it, his main subject was English Literature. He only ever let her call him Tex, everyone else called him Jarred. He died 10 years ago from heart disease.

She knew her time was coming to an end as she hummed softly to a tune that was stuck in her head, it was from back in her younger days. The music from that time was still quite popular despite how old it is. She glanced out the window above the sink and looked at her garden in her backyard. Despite her age with all the aches and pains in her joints and back, she still managed to keep it well trimmed and thriving.

She was content with her death. She had lived a long and satisfactory life, she became a well-known chef and business owner, and still had time for fun in her life. She was determined to spoil her 3 grandchildren, within the time she had left.

She had two children of her own, her daughter Joanna who is currently 48 and her son Samuel who is 45. Joanna is a happily married woman to a man named Nickolas Tailor who is only 2 years older than her. They have three kids, Izzy who's 20, Zak is 16, and Dylan's 14. Her son is married to Andie, who is 46 and taught elementary school. They didn't have any kids yet but they were thinking about adopting as well as having a biological child but haven't decided yet.

Her children didn't want to inherit her company, but her granddaughter had shown a great interest in doing so. She had already shown her the ropes and had it all set up in her will. Izzy was currently in college and about to graduate, she was very smart and skipped a grade or two. Gail knew she'd be able to do it and didn't have any regrets in her actions.

She made her way carefully up the stairs to her bedroom after finishing the dishes. She sat on her bed and wrote a note on a piece of paper and left it on her bedside table. She was proud of both her children and her grandchildren. Her daughter was a well-renowned lawyer and her son was an author who wrote very interesting mystery novels. Izzy was going to take over the Cooking Oracle for her, Zak wanted to be a mechanic and Dylan wanted to be an actor.

She already had all her affairs in order and knew the others would have no problems regarding anything about her death other than the emotional ones. She laid back in bed with a content sigh and a slight smile on her face, she fell into an endless slumber.

~Gail's Pov~

There's a light in the darkness.

'Am I going to heaven? I don't know man, I've done some stuff in my life, would I even make the cut?'

I never really thought much about the afterlife or religion, but that doesn't mean I was atheist, I just believed that what was going to happen would happen. Nothing I could do about that. The light got brighter and brighter and I put up a hand to cover my eyes. I don't ache and there's no more pain. I feel better than I have in years.

Once the light recedes I look around. I'm in a cozy-looking room. Dark gray wooden flooring, dusty blue walls, white ceiling, gray couch and armchair with navy and white accent pillows, a glass coffee table in the middle of them with a navy and white rug underneath. A ceiling fan with a light fixture was hanging above it. Up against the wall behind the couch was a black wooden bookshelf. I walk over and run my hand across the spines of the books
