Bia
"No." I said, simply.
"What do you mean 'no'?" Shehzad looked as puzzled as I felt.
"'No' is a word used for denial or refusal." I gritted my teeth. "I'm no going anywhere until you give me a valid argument. It's not enough that you think that I'm in danger."
"Sobia, this is my life in general." He said. "Today, it was this guy, tomorrow it could be someone else."
"I could literally get run over by a car tomorrow as well! Does that mean I should completely avoid going out?" I shook my head at him. "Just be honest, Shehzad. You don't want me in your life. If that's the case, then that's a completely different scenario. But I am not going to run away with like a scared little mouse just because of a little danger. None of us did anything wrong, and we have nothing to fear."
He turned away slightly. "Fine. I don't want you in my life."
"You know, you could be done for perjury if you made that statement in the court of law."
"How are you assuming that I'm lying?" He looked at me like he was finding it very difficult to understand me as a person.
"I think you're experiencing feelings that you're not ready to experience." I slowly took a step towards him. "I think that after everything you've been through, you're trying to avoid those feelings. I think..."
"Do you have a degree in Psychology now?" He raised an eyebrow. I was close enough to him now that he had to look down at me, while I had to tilt my head back to look up at him.
"I don't need a degree in Psychology to understand my family." I shrugged. "I'm not going anywhere, Mr Shehzad Arshad, until you can swear an oath that you don't want me in your life." I glanced at the time on the wall clock. "I guess it'll have to be brunch now. I'll let Mishal know that we're coming."
"Why are you so stubborn?" He grabbed my wrist before I could turn around.
I looked up at him, and I felt soft, warm feelings bubble up in my chest, all directed towards this silly man who thought that I'd leave him to face dangerous situations on his own. Concern and maybe some sadness was reflected in his grey eyes, and I began to understand why he was so eager for me to leave. "Because I care about you, Shehzad, and I know that you care about me too. I think we're at that stage of caring where neither of us would be happy without the other."
He shrugged. "I think I'll manage." But he had a small smile on his face now.
"You think that you can manage without me?" I asked him, my tone filled with challenge.
"I know I can." He was full-on grinning now, his tone filled with cockiness.
Amusement and playfulness drained away from my face. "Fine. I'll book my tickets to London then. I'll take the first flight possible. I don't want to stay in a place where I'm not wanted." I headed back into the bedroom and grabbed my phone before scrolling onto the browser for websites that sold flight tickets. I felt him walk up behind me, glancing down at the screen.
"Tomorrow?" He sounded surprised as he saw me enter the date.
"I need time to pack." I looked up at him over my shoulder. "Or am I that intolerable that you can't even bear me for a few hours?"
"You're being dramatic, Bee."
I continued selecting the dates, and chose the 'One Way' option.
