After Jack had walked off, the bell rang. It was time to go off into school and have the register for the start of the day. That way Jack could prove all about Tommy and Lola's lies and their little game would be up. Jack tried to keep cool. It wasn't anything big; it was just a little prank that they had pulled on him. No hard feelings. After the register was over Jack would know that it was over and that Tommy was pulling his leg.
The register started off as usual. The register was taken by alphabetical order of the first name. Time passed and it seemed like years before they reached the L's.
"Layla?"
"Here miss."
"Lily?"
"Here miss.
"Michael"
"Here miss."
Jack was completely bamboozled. He quickly shot his hand up.
"Yes, Jack, what is it?"
"What about Lola, Miss?"
This sparked hoots of laughter from the class.
"I beg your pardon, Jack?"
"I said that you'd missed out Lola."
This time it made them chuckle even louder.
"There never was nor is there anyone in this class named Lola, Jack. Now, please let me get on with the register!"
