Kakashi's P.O.V

Akane just left, stumbling when she hit the ground outside my apartment building before running off. I didn't run after her, I knew she needed some time to think and I needed some myself, I never thought I'd find someone I'd want to spend the rest of my life with and ever get married or start a family but I found one now and I messed up. If only she'd let me explain.

Akane's P.O.V

Two weeks go by with my not seeing Kakashi and avoiding him, it's late December now and the new year is just around the corner. Things have been quiet lately and I'm worried something big is going to happen soon with the Akatsuki. I'm out getting groceries when I run into Akihiko and someone who seems to be his girlfriend "Hey Akane, how're you?" He asks and I set down my basket of groceries "I'm doing okay, I'm glad to see everything has worked out in your relationship for you" I keep my voice low on the last part hoping I was seeing things right "Yeah, we're actually engaged now" He tells me and she holds out the ring on her finger "Wow, you're one lucky girl" I tell her and she smiles "Well, we'll let you go on your way, she just wanted to buy something sweet. I'll see you around" Akihiko says "See you later" I give them a slight nod as they walk off and I pick up my groceries again "Akane," I hear another voice say as I'm standing straight again and come face to face with Kakashi and no clear chance to run away again.

I give him a simple 'hey' and tuck some of my hair behind my ear, look at the floor. He sighs "Look, you should have let me finish what I wanted to say the other day, no matter where I looked I couldn't find you. I even staked out your house for a whole day and you never showed" He tells me, talking with his hands "Even Sakura is shooting me nasty looks, did you say something to her?" He was getting upset now and I could hear it in his voice. "No I didn't say anything to her, in fact, I told her not to be upset with you" I snap back at him and go on with my shopping. He follows me around the store "What did you tell her then?" He asks and puts something he likes in my basket to which I put it back on the shelf "I told her that sometimes people grow apart and there's nothing wrong with that" I shrug and head to the check out lines "What do you mean 'grow apart', we aren't growing apart from each other" He says, I don't respond. Saying thank you to the cashier and heading home with my groceries "Akane," He's had enough. He steps in front of me and holds my shoulders "I don't want to grow apart" He was quiet, it hurt him having to say those words and I could feel myself fighting back tears. "Look Akane, if you had let me say what I wanted to the other day you would have known that-" 

"Kakashi-san" Someone interrupts him, he takes his hands off me and looks over my shoulder "I'm busy right now, it can wait for later," He tells them "Lady Tsunade has summoned you and wants you to bring Naruto" They continue to say, Kakashi sighs "Tell her I'll be right there," He tells them while looking at me "Go, you don't want to keep her waiting," I say before walking off. I get home, put away my groceries, and just sit on my couch, head in my hands as I relive the moment over and over again. Eventually, I'm fed up with everything and decide to go out and blow off some steam. I get dressed in something comfortable and flexible to train in before heading out. I pass by the Hokage's office and see some frog summons outside, 'lord Jiraiya must be back' I think to myself and then I see Kakashi coming down the stairs. He catches my eye and rushes down to me "Akane, you might want to go find Naruto." He says, now I'm worried "Why? What happened?" I panic "Jiraiya-sensei has died in battle, Naruto loved him like a father and didn't take the news so well, of course," He tells me "Why didn't you just say so sooner," I let out a frustrated grunt before heading off in another direction to find Naruto.

It takes a few hours but I find him walking around the village, face drained of all emotion and my heart swells. "Naruto," I say softly, coming up to him and placing a hand on his shoulder. He looks up at me "Onee-chan," Was all he could get out before he busted into tears, I take him into a tight hug and rubbed his back "Naruto, I know right now its tough for you but I want you to know I'm always here when you need me, even when you don't I'm always here for you." I tell him and we pull away from the hug "Thank you Onee-chan, it really helps to have someone there" He gives me a sad smile "I think I'm going to go home and eat something now, I'll see you later" He tells me an starts to walk away again "You can always come over and I'll make you something to eat sweetie," I call out to him but he just raises a hand in thanks and continues to walk. I sigh "Akane, lady Tsunade has summoned you to help with an autopsy" Shizune comes up to me seconds later. "On who?" I ask yet still walk with her "One of the Akasuki members, Lord Jiraiya was able to kill and capture his body" She says and I stay silent, not sure what to expect.
