Kakashi's P.O.V

Lord Jiraiya sent a code and Shikamaru sets off to try and decipher it; Naruto went off after he was told the news of Jiraiya and I wasn't able to resolve things with Akane. I set on about my days and I walk by the cipher division where Naruto, Shikamaru, and one of the decipher team members are working on Jiraiya's code, they were talking about his books and how they could be the key to breaking the code. "The book he used was probably this one," I say holding up the last book published before his death. "Yes! That was the book he was working on while we were training!" Naruto says, excited about the find "That makes sense, Naruto would be the only one who would have known about that, he did pass the message onto you, Naruto" Shikamaru says "The code starts with 'ta', this is the only book title that Jiraiya published starting with 'ta'" I think out loud to myself "When a character is used in a code, it could signify word placement or line number but the established protocol is to check the page number first. There are six numbers in the code so we're looking at six pages for the code, let's start there" The woman the boys were working with explains, and we go from there.

Akane's P.O.V

We spend days working on the body of Pain that we have, trying to figure out everything we can about what kind of person we're dealing with. As we were working I heard the news that Jiraiya's code was broken and Naruto left the village to train with the toads.

A large boom and the whole building shakes. Everyone in the room keeps themselves from falling and we look at each other "I'm going to report to Lady Tsunade on our findings and check out what that was" Shizune says before rushing out of the room, everyone gives her a simple nod and the building shakes again. I get worried but continue to work and do what I can. What feels like hours is when Shizune comes back to us in a hurry with an ANBU member "The village is under direct attack, head out there and help others. Akane," Shizune announces then directs towards me "Lady Tsunade wants your help at the hospital tending to the wounded" She finishes, I nod and we all rush away from our work to help. I arrive at the hospital and immediately check in with the staff to let them know I'm here to help before finding the person in need of the most medical attention. Sakura shows up sometime later and starts to help as well "Thank you for coming Sakura, we really need the help," I tell her as we're tending to patients right next to each other. "Iruka sensei told me to come here, I'm happy I can be some help," She says and gives me a hopeful smile.

 The hospital is swamped with patients and everyone's overworking themselves trying to at least make everyone in pain feel comfortable. The casualty count is high already and it feels like there's no end to it all. The alarms have been sounded and I'm hoping that means that everyone who can't fight is retreating to safety. "Do we know who the enemy is or how many there are? How can something like this happen so all of a sudden" I talk with Sakura as we're replenishing ourselves and before she can respond more patients come through the door and we're back at it again. I'm wrapping a splint around a woman's arm when things calmed down a little bit and suddenly the doors burst open and Choji is standing there with Choza slung around his shoulders "Sakura!" He yells and she runs towards him to help, she lays Choza nearby in an empty bed and starts to check his injuries "What happened?" She asks and Choji is still crying, holding onto his father's hand.

"Kakashi sensei was fighting one of the Pain's and we came to help. We almost had him but another Pain blocked the other one from getting hurt, pa covered me from Kakashi's attack" Choji explains to her before turning to me "I'm sorry Akane sensei but Kakashi didn't make it out," His sobs are harder now and I feel myself go numb. My mind goes blank from everything around me and my ears ring. Memories of when we were little kids play in my head, reading his letter updates while I was away. His face when he saw me for the first time in a year and a half of being sick, his eyes when I told him I loved him, the way his lips felt when he first kissed me. I stand slowly, trying to keep my balance as I walk over to Choji and Sakura "Where is he?" I ask almost in a whisper "Sensei," Sakura is quiet with tears streaming down her face "Where is he?!" I yell this time and make them flinch "I-I can take you to him" Choji stutters, not moving from his spot next to his dad. "How long has it been since his heart stopped beating? I can save him" I pled, my hands on my chest knowing that with my training I have a window of 3 minutes from when a heart stops to revive it again.

"Akane!" Sakura yells at me, dropping formalities. She's not looking at me but giving her attention to Choza. "We need you here at the hospital, Kakashi sensei wouldn't want you to leave." She tells me, and just then Katsuyu comes through the door, a couple of versions of her and she latches on to a couple of people and starts to heal them. I distract myself on helping anyone else that needed dire help but the while time my mind is on Kakashi, all the memories we made together and what a future for us could have held. Just then, the ground rumbles and what sounds like a landslide that you're standing right next to is heard. The sound is so deafing I'm tempted to cover my ears but before I even get a chance, everything around me turns black.

I'm juggling a certificate program I have until October to finish (which I don't think I will) and life right now but I needed a break and wanted to return to this book. Hope you're enjoying it. Loves. As always,
