Saturday.
Murat POV
I had last seen Hayat on Wednesday. The girls went to her house for a movie night today. Tuval was keeping me updated with things happening there.
Saturday night text history:
20:00 From Tuval: Oh my God! Hayat learnt to cook! She's cooked us dinner. And o la la! It was mouth watering. Chef's kiss emoji
20:35 From Tuval: Okay, we got a company. The hot guy from Wednesday followed by a another handsome man. I'm not complaining.
23:50 From Tuval: Those guys left. They watched half a movie with us. But they had some reasons to leave. Cihangir (The guy from Wednesday) is like a brother to Hayat. The other guy's name is Serkan. He's Cihangir's cousin. Hayat is verrrrrrrrrrrrry comfortable with him.
To Tuval: What do you mean by the last part?
From Tuval: Hayat was way too comfortable. I guess he likes her. Couldn't tell about Hayat. Wait she's texting someone. Let me try to look. Oh it's the Hot guy's cousin. Look at her. She's blushing and annoyed and irritated? Her expressions change at the speed of a bullet train.
To Tuval: No more updates please Tuval. Although I still love her, I'm content with the fact that she's at least staying in my life. I'm sleeping. Enjoy your movie night.
From Tuval: Okay, good night! But I will still hope that Hayat comes back to you.
Sunday 05:00
Murat POV
The buzzing of my phone woke me up. It was an unknown number. Before I could process and answer the call, it stopped ringing. I rolled over and adjusted my comforter when it rang again. "Hello.. " I said still half asleep. "Yes this is Murat Sarsilmaz" What I heard next made me wide awake and shattered my world completely. I felt numb. I couldn't process what was going on. Is this some sort of elaborate sick joke? No, why would the Police officers won't play a joke at this hour in the morning? I tried calling Kerem but his phone was switched off. Doruk's room was empty. I called him once but he did not pick up. I called Tuval too but she too didn't pick up. I had no idea where Kerem or Doruk were but I knew where Tuval was so I drove at full speed to get her. I rang Hayat's doorbell once while also calling Tuval continuously. To my surprise, Hayat opened the door.
Hayat POV
I was annoyed to say the least. We were watching movie till 1 am. Ipek and Asli went to sleep in one of the guest rooms. Tuval was already asleep on the couch. Her phone lit up with notification when I noticed her battery. It was almost dead so I put it for charge in my room. Covered her with a blanket and went off to sleep in my room. I woke up around 5 am to continuous buzzing of my phone. I searched for my phone with closed eyes and when I finally found it, it wasn't ringing. Then I realised Tuval's phone is also in my room. I checked it, Murat was calling. At this hour? What is wrong with him. Before I could pick it up it was cut off. I went to pee and then washed my face. Just when I was about to slip back into my warm cozy blanket, it started ringing again. And then the doorbell rang. I took Tuval's phone and ran downstairs to get the door. Who could it be at this hour? It was Murat. But he looked broken. He was crying. I couldn't help but engulf him in hug. The outdoors was chilly and he was in his night dress. I couldn't understand anything he was saying because he was sobbing. So I took him in, put the kettle to boil and offered him a warm glass of water. He drank it one go and told me that we have to go to this hospital. I knew it was some kind of emergency so I didn't question him, I ran upstairs, grabbed the first pant I could find and changed from my shorts into it. I grabbed my coat and Cihangir's coat that was in my house and went with Murat. Of course I was driving and we took my car as Murat was not in a mental state to drive.
He put the address in the system. I drove as fast as I could. We reached no later than 15 mins. Throughout the ride he was sobbing. As soon as I stopped, he dashed out the door to the reception. They redirected him somewhere and I was blindly following him. There I realised that it was his mother. She overdosed on alcohol and stumbled upon a Police car. The police got her here and she was critical so they started operating on her immediately.
Murat sat down in a chair. Totally broken. And seeing him like this made me uneasy. I guess I still care about him. I sat beside him and he broke down. Keeping his head on my lap, he narrated me about his mom, how she came back, how his dad left, the letter he received, everything. He was resembling a baby that I desperately wanted to protect. The doctor came out of the operating theatre and broke the news. "She was alcohol addicted and that caused too many complications. Unfortunately she didn't make it." That broke Murat down.
Murat POV
The doctor came out of the operating theatre and I ran to them. The senior one of them said that "You must be the son of the patient." after nodding, he said "Mr. Sarsilmaz, your mother was addicted to alcohol for a long period of time. When she was brought in she had a lot of it in her system. Her long history lead to some complications so we had to start operating on her immediately. I'm sorry to say but unfortunately she didn't make it." With that he excused himself and his colleague. I fell down there. My world was shattered. My mother. She was no more. I don't remember what happened next. Everything was blur. All I know was Hayat had my face in her hand and she kept saying the bad days would be over soon.
Hayat POV
Murat broke down. I kept trying to comfort him. I got him to sit down in the seats we were previously occupying. I managed to give Ipek a call. She was bringing the others here. All I could do till then was to comfort Murat.
Tuval POV
Ipek woke us up and gave the news. We left immediately for the hospital. We arrived only to see a broken Murat being comforted by Hayat. Soon the nurse came and asked if anyone could accompany her to complete the formalities. Leaving Murat with Kerem and Doruk, Hayat followed the nurse with me tagging along.
The nurse said that, "The bill is of 179,465 Liras. How would you like to pay?" I was about to get Doruk to pay the bill because that amount is HIGH, but to my astonishment Hayat whispered, "I'll pay via card." to which she replies, "And what relations do you share with Mr Sarsilmaz? If you are a family, you need to fill out few forms as well." Without hesitating, Hayat said that, "I'm his fiancée. I will fill out the forms required." I was gaping at her mentally. She paid the bill and signed the forms and completed the formalities. She then made few calls to arrange for funeral. She then proceeded to instruct me to call Deriya, Murat's grandmother, and everyone else that knew Murat's mother. She instructed Doruk to stay at the hospital and told him the bill was paid off. Kerem took me Ipek and Asli in his car and dropped us to our houses while Hayat took Murat with her and headed to his house.
Through out the call I couldn't help but wonder about Hayat. She paid the bill without thinking for a second as if that amount of money did not make a dent in her bank account. The way she claimed she was Murat's fiancée without hesitating. As is she still cared. Or maybe that was humanity? The way she commanded the room and told everyone what to do.. wait. She took care of the funeral just by making few calls. So she had contacts in Istanbul. Who is this Hayat? How did she become this Hayat? She did tell the story of her journey but why do I feel she was holding out some information??
The next time I saw everyone was at the funeral.
