Maria takes the four to a secret place, They run with Natasha down a long hall to another man. "GSW. She's lost at least a pint." Maria yells.
"She's lost two." Flora adds.
"Let me take her."
"She'll want to see him first." Maria stops.
Maria takes them to Fury who's alive and lying in bed. Flora sits down and scrunches her face as she focus' on Fury's heart.
"Lacerated spinal column, cracked sternum, shattered collarbone, perforated liver, one hell of a headache."
"Don't forget your collapsed lung." The doctor adds as he starts stitching Natasha's wound.
"Oh, let's not forget that. Otherwise, I'm good."
Natasha shakes her head. "They cut you open, your heart stopped."
"You know what I can do....I knew you were dead." Flora says.
"Tetrodotoxin B. Slows the pulse to one beat a minute. Banner developed it for stress. Didn't work so great for him, but we found a use for it."
"No....your heart completely stopped." Flora says.
"Maybe I died for a few minutes...." Fury shrugs.
"Flora...I'm gonna inject you with this serum. Should flush out what's left of the other one." Maria kneels down and injects Flora in her arm.
"Why all the secrecy? Why not just tell us?"
Maria looks over at Steve as she finishes up on Flora. "Any attempt on the director's life had to look successful."
"Can't kill you if you're already dead. Besides, I wasn't sure who to trust."
Maria and the doctor help Fury sit at the table, he then shows them a picture of Pierce. "This man declined the Nobel Peace Prize. He said, 'Peace wasn't an achievement, it was a responsibility.' See, it's stuff like this that gives me trust issues."
"We have to stop the launch." Flora nods.
"I don't think the Council's accepting my calls anymore." Fury opens a case containing three chips.
"What's that?" Sam asks as Flora reaches forward to feel them.
"Once the Helicarriers reach three thousand feet, they'll triangulate with Insight satellites becoming fully weaponized."
"We need to breach those carriers and replace their targeting blades with our own." Fury says.
"One or two won't cut it. We need to link all three carriers for this to work, because if even one of those ships remains operational a whole lot of people are gonna die."
Fury nods. "We have to assume everyone aboard those carriers is Hydra. We need to get pass them, insert the server blades, and maybe, just maybe, we can salvage what's left..."
"We're not salvaging anything. We're not just taking down the carriers, Nick, we're taking down Shield." Steve speaks up.
"Shield had nothing to do with it."
"You gave me this mission, this is how it ends. Shield's been compromised, you said so yourself. Hydra grew right under your nose and nobody noticed." Steve speaks louder.
"Why do you think we're meeting in this cave? I noticed."
"And how many paid the price before you did?" Steve asks.
"Look, I didn't know about Barnes."
"Even if you have, would you have told him? Or would you have compartmentalized that too? Steve is right. Shield, Hydra, it all goes." Flora agrees.
"Their right."
Fury looks at Natasha then Sam. "Don't look at me. I do what he does, just slower."
Fury sighs. "Well... Looks like you're giving the orders now, Captain."
Flora gets into her suit and finds Steve on a bridge, lost in his thoughts. She stands beside him and bows her head. "Bucky was always there for me....through everything."
"I'm so sorry Steve."
"What happened between you two?" He finally looks over at her.
"I don't know....it's hard to explain. It was like the world around us stopped, my heart and stomach fluttered as I could see a clear image of his face. I felt this odd connection between us...like magnetically pulling us together. I know he felt it too."
"That means he can come back...."
"I think so." She nods.
"He's gonna be there, you know?" Sam says as he approaches them.
"I know."
Sam sighs softly, "Look, whoever he used to be, the guy he is now, I don't think he's the kind you save. He's the kind you stop."
"I don't know if I can do that."
"Well, he might not give you a choice. He doesn't know you." Sam shakes his head.
"He will. He's still in there." Flora nods.
"Gear up, it's time." Steve turns and starts to walk off.
"You gonna wear that?"
Steve turns with a smile, "No. If you're gonna fight a war, you gotta wear a uniform."
