Chapter 10

Maria, Steve, Sam, and Flora break into a Shield tech room. Steve steps up to an intercom and takes a deep breath. "Attention, all Shield agents. This is Steve Rogers. You've heard a lot about me over the last few days, some of you were even ordered to hunt me down. But I think it's time you know the truth. Shield is not what we thought it was, it's been taken over by Hydra. Alexander Pierce is their leader. The Strike and Insight crew are Hydra as well. I don't know how many more, but I know they're in the building. They could be standing right next to you. They almost have what they want: absolute control. They shot Nick Fury and it won't end there. If you launch those Helicarriers today, Hydra will be able to kill anyone that stands in their way, unless we stop them. I know I'm asking a lot, but the price of freedom is high, it always has been, and it's a price I'm willing to pay. And if I'm the only one, then so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not."

"Did you write that down first, or was it off the top of your head?" Flora asks, smirking as they walk over to the door.

"They're initiating launch!" Maria yells.

"Flora you stay with me at all times, okay?" Steve asks.

"Yes sir." She takes her baton out and secures one of the chips in her belt.

"Hey, Cap, how do we know the good guys from the bad guys?" Sam asks.

"If they're shooting at you, they're bad."

Sam quickly flies off as Steve and Flora stick together, getting on the first carrier and ducking to avoid being shot. "Hey, Cap, I found those bad guys you were talking about."

"You okay?"

"I'm not dead yet!" Sam yells.

Flora leaps over a crate and kicks an agents face, she throws her baton, ducking from the gunfire as it swings around and hits five men then lands back in her hand. "Get in there! I'll cover you!" Steve yells.

She clicks a button on her baton and swings the top as it unhooks, latching the grappling hook above the carrier. She jumps onto the large creates and leaps off, swinging above the remaining agents and landing at the door. She quickly runs through the empty halls and slides into the control center. She places the chip inside and closes it, "Alpha locked."

"'Bravo locked." Sam says at the same time.

"Two down, one to go....Six minutes."

Flora meets Steve outside and knocks out another agent. "Hey, Sam, we're gonna need a ride." Flora yells as they run away from the gunfire.

"Roger! Let me know when you're ready."

Steve grabs flora and leaps off the deck, "We just did!" Sam flies in just in time to catch the two and flies them to the last carrier.

"You both are a lot heavier than you look." Sam smirks.

"Well...we had a big breakfast." Flora smiles.

Suddenly Bucky appears and kicks Steve off the side. "STEVE!" Flora screams, she punches Bucky just as he kicks her. She falls off the edge and uses her grappling hook in her baton to stop her fall as she grabs Steve's hand, slowly pulling them up.

"Cap? Flora? Cap, come in. Are you okay?" Sam asks worriedly.

"Yeah, we're here!"

"We're still on the Helicarrier. I grabbed him just in time." Flora helps Steve up onto the carrier. "Where are you?"

"I'm grounded, the suit's down. Sorry, guys."

"Don't worry, we got it." Steve nods at Flora.

As soon as they turn the corner to the control center, they stop to see Bucky. "People are gonna die, Buck. I can't let that happen." Steve shakes his head as Bucky stares at him coldly. "Please, don't make me do this."

Seeing Bucky won't back down, Steve throws his shield at him and they start battling each other. Flora leaps over them and pulls up the system. Bucky grabs the back of her neck and slams her face into the railing, then picking her up and throwing her over. She slides down to the bottom level, clutching her side as she feels the wind knocked out of her.

Steve and Bucky fall down in front of her, she quickly gets behind him and wraps her arm around his throat as she holds onto his flesh hand to get the chip. "Drop it! Drop it!" She yanks his arm, making him scream and drop the chip. He then takes his knife and stabs her side but she doesn't let go, she applies more pressure to his neck to make him pass out.

"Here!" Steve holds his hands up. She tosses it to him and holds her side as he tries to get back up.

"One minute." Maria says. Suddenly Bucky wakes up and shoots Steve in the left thigh and then the right shoulder, but Steve still manages to climb up. "Thirty seconds, Cap!"

"Stand by." He gets the chip out as Flora runs over to Bucky. "Charlie..." Bucky shoots Steve in the stomach and he falls.

He then turns and shoots Flora in the stomach, then her leg. She falls to her knees and looks up at Bucky as he walks over to her. "You know him....you are Bucky. His best friend." She mutters as blood pours out of her mouth. He quickly hits her face with his gun, screaming as he repeats this several times until her helmet is knocked off.

Bucky is interrupted as the other Carriers start firing on each other, making a large piece of metal fall on Bucky and breaks the glass. Flora falls through and holds onto the metal bars, trying her best to not fall down as Steve frees Bucky. Bucky attacks Steve, screaming as he punches him. It was pointless, Flora passes out from blood loss and falls into the water, Steve following shortly after.

Suddenly Flora gasps for air as water pours out of her mouth. She slowly rolls to her side to see a figure standing above her and Steve, they drop her baton and helmet beside her. "Bucky..." She mumbles, slowly moving to her knees. She then slowly reaches her hand out for him. "Trust me...take my hand." Bucky slowly clasps his hand around hers, and helps her up. She coughs out blood, "You are Bucky Barnes."

"I don't know who I am...I don't know.." He says sadly.

"You know there's something here...between us." Flora holds her hand on the wound on her stomach and limps forward. "You feel it too." He stays silent and looks at the ground before turning and walks away. "Hey! Go to the Smithsonian. You'll learn more about yourself." She yells, falling back to her knees. She lays beside Steve, looking at the sky as a helicopter descends.

All she worried about was if Steve was okay
