Thirty Nine

As things began to progress further and Lily was starting to feel more pain when having contractions the midwife was called in, and after being checked over by the midwife Lily was encouraged to learn she was seven centimetres dilated.

For the moment, she had decided to have a bath to try and relax her muscles and get some rest before shortly the time would come to start pushing.

With it being several hours since she went into labor she was already feeling very tired but Lily knew that the hard part was yet to come and she knew it would be wrong if she said she wasn't even just a little bit scared but she knew that she wasn't alone.

Keeping hold of Do Hwan's hand was a great comfort to her as he spoke soothing words when she would have a contraction and squeeze his hand. For a while Lily was doing well, but little did she know how quickly the last three centimetres had gone by very quickly and was already at ten centimetres.

"Alright Lily, you are now at ten and can start pushing, just quickly are you happy with staying in the bath or do you want to get out and get on the bed?"

Lily shook her head wanting to stay where she was, "No... I want to stay in here."

"Okay, that's okay sweetie. Now when you feel it when the next contraction comes I you to push down into your bottom for me and try and push for at least ten seconds each time until we need to stop okay?"

"Okay..."

For a moment there was a pause of silence until she felt a deep pain through her thighs and back and upon instinct began to push as the contraction ripped through her body making her cry out.

"Oh, ow ow that... hurts."

"That's okay it's alright, keep it going, good that's it gather your energy for when next one comes."

With a gentle squeeze of her hand and a kiss on her forehead, Lilly opened her eyes to see Do Hwan gazing at her with such affection and admiration in his eyes. She quickly gave him a smile in return until her face scrunched up in pain and once again she began pushing.

"That's it, Jagiya you've got this."

The contractions continued for a while and soon they became too much for Lily and she couldn't help but to cry out in pain.

For Do Hwan, though he knew that this time around it was natural for his girlfriend to be in pain it still broke his heart to see her in pain and to hear her cry out, he wished he could take the pain away but he knew that he couldn't and all he could do was be by her side give her words of encouragement and give her comfort.

Panting while trying to catch her breath Lily began to feel a buildup of pressure as she whimpered in pain as she tried to change position.

With help from Do Hwan and the midwife, Lily managed to onto her knees in a crouched position as she reached out to him wrapping her arms around him resting her head on his shoulder as he gently held her rubbing her back to try and alleviate some of the pain.

But just as she was settled in his arms another wave of pain hit surprising her as a sharp short scream left her mouth and she couldn't help but smack the edge of the bath.

"Owwww! Oh, that hurts", she voiced her breathing quick and heavy.

"It's alright Liliana, it'll be hard and it does hurt but your body knows what to do.", replied the midwife.

"Oh, no make it stop... Oww."

"Easy Liliana slow it down, slow down your breathing sweetie. It won't be long now it's almost over."

With each contraction, Lily continued to push as she held onto her boyfriend tighter and he kissed the top of her head.

"I'm here, I'm here sweetheart."
