Selena had shown Axel the island on which she wanted to go. The island was situated in the Whispering Tomb Lands on the Far East side.
‘Are you sure?’ Axel asked again and again, ‘it is an unnamed island and the stories about it are not pleasant.’
‘What stories?’ asked Lance.
SMACK! Misha hit him on the head. She had started his new training for level seven and he wasn’t making good progress.
‘The island is unnamed because the two villages there are at war and have been for the past fifteen years,’ said Axel.
‘A war between villages for fifteen years?’ repeated Rain, ‘what is the reason?’
‘I don’t know,’
‘I do,’ said Selena.
Everyone waited for her to tell.
‘Well?’ asked Rain.
‘I’ll tell you later,’ she said with a significant look at Axel.
‘Um,’ Axel noticed why she wasn’t speaking, ‘I’ll be in. I have to check on the Z-Heart.’
‘That was awkward,’ she said, ‘I feel kinda bad.’
‘But we can’t let him know anything,’ said Seth.
‘Anyways,’ said Rain, ‘you were saying…’
‘Yes. The reason the villages are at war is over the ownership of a mummy.’
‘A mummy,’ said Rain, ‘whose mummy?’
‘A woman,’ said Selena, ‘called the Eternal Mother.’
Rain and Lance raised their eyebrows.
‘Could she be the kind mother mentioned in the poem?’ asked Lance.
‘It is possible,’ said Seth, ‘we tried to find out anything we could but no book in the library mentioned her.’
‘Why?’
‘I suspect that people of the island know everything but are reluctant to let anyone else know,’ said Selena, ‘we are going to go there and find out everything we can.’
‘So why is Axel so scared of going there?’ asked Rain, ‘just two villages at war are no big deal.’
‘That is what I also thought,’ said Selena, ‘but then Seth found out a book. It is an interesting place. It has a history of providing the Mictlanian army with the best soldiers and generals. The people there are strong fighters. The level of this war is not like a small feud.’
‘What makes you think that the people of that place will give us any information?’ asked Lance, ‘we are outsiders.’
‘We are gonna have to find a way,’ said Seth, ‘even if they don’t tell us anything, it can’t hurt to have look around the island for clues. No book in the library told us who the Eternal Mother is but we do know that she was born on that island. Her descendants must live there in her old house. Maybe some old family heirlooms or trinkets might give us some clues.’
‘Great,’ said Lance, ‘AXEL!’
‘You called,’ he emerged from the door after ten seconds.
‘When are we gonna reach there?’
‘In a day,’ he said.
And it did take them a day. The night was falling when Axel told them that they had reached their destination. And it did seem like an island at war. It was a crudely oval shaped island. They could see lights on either end of the island and the middle was dark. It seemed that it was on halt at the moment.
