Selena frowned as Seth winded next to her. She looked at him curiously then turned away. Her head was held kind of high and she was looking at the top.

‘Selena,’ he spoke. She turned her back on him. He walked and came in front of her. ‘Selena,’ he began, she turned the other way. He sighed. ‘Selena, I’m here to take you up.’

Selena didn’t reply. She kept looking up, waiting for Lance to come.

‘Selena,’ he walked and came in front of her again. She quickly turned the other way but SWISH! He winded back so she was facing him again.

‘WHAT?!’ she shouted at him.

‘I’m here to take you,’ he said.

‘No!’ she said, ‘I will go with Lance.’

‘I came instead,’ he said.

‘I won’t go with you,’ she said and started climbing the top. Seth was nervous. Selena’s cheeks were burning red due to anger. Due to her small height, she seemed like a small school girl being stubborn. Seth walked after her.

‘Selena,’ he called, she didn’t turn or stop, ‘Selena, wait.’

She didn’t wait. Seth wasn’t tired or exhausted but his breathing was raced. He was racking his brains for something to say to her. He was frustrated. Why wasn’t he able to say anything to her except call out her name? He was getting irritated at himself.

‘SELENA!’ he shouted. She stopped but didn’t turn around. He became silent, again out of words. He took a deep breath. Selena started walking again. SWISH! He vanished and appeared in front of her. She got startled. He grabbed her by her shoulders tightly.

‘What?!’ he said, ‘what do you want me to say?’

Selena looked into his eyes. His face showed anxiety and hints of anger. She had never seen Seth like this before.

‘Do you want me to say sorry?’ he said, ‘well I can’t. The word is not strong enough and it is empty.’

Selena turned her head away.

‘Selena, please,’ he said. His grip on her shoulders became loose. ‘How long are you going to stay mad at me? I cannot change my past. I was a monster. I know I tricked you as well and I am ashamed that I was going to leave you helpless in the forest alone. But Selena, I know this and I can’t lie to myself, I started caring about you the moment we met, all of you. I started having second thoughts about my mission but I couldn’t do anything. I was afraid, I admit. But I’m not anymore. I don’t care what happens to me. I don’t care what Lord Ar'Kaleeth does to my body. I can bear any torture, any suffering if I can protect you.’

Seth noticed a slight change in Selena’s expression at his last words; it softened a bit. But suddenly it became harsh again.

‘You didn’t consider us friends,’ said Selena, placing her hands on his arms and pulling his hands of her shoulders, ‘you never did. If you cared about us, you wouldn’t have tried to have Rain killed.’

Seth dropped his head and sighed.

‘At that point,’ he said, ‘my plans were in disarray.’

‘What do you mean?’

‘I was having second thoughts,’ he said, ‘I had half a mind to leave my original mission but Lord Ar'Kaleeth’s spell kept pulling me back. I started loosing grip over the circumstances and started gambling. I gambled that Rain would finish off those Dark Bloods.’

‘So you bet his life in the gamble?!’ asked Selena, her eyes becoming wider.

‘I told you my plans were all disordered,’ he said with a hint of plea in his voice, ‘I anticipated his blindness but overlooked it.’
