Shinichi needed a second to gather himself, all while being under the watchful eye of Pandora, said one being visibly confused upon his sudden hesitation.

This was KID's house.

Shinichi flashed another glance around and once again, found himself rid of any audience. He shook his head. No.. he had to investigate. He couldn't just leave, he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he didn't follow his instincts.

A deep breath was all it took to regain his focus and composure. Alright.
"Is this your home?"
Pandora nodded, still holding the door open for Shinichi. Ah, was he really going to do this? Of course he was.

Shinichi took the first step forward, his first glance was towards the small nameplate at the door.
Kuroba.
That name was oddly familiar to him. Didn't his mother mention someone named Kuroba? A magician, he presumed.

Images filled his mind of his mother rambling on and on. Kuroba. Her mentor, Kuroba.
How surprising.

The sleuth then slowly brushed past Pandora into the house. He took off his shoes- he didn't want to be impolite, after all- and grabbed the pair afterwards to take it along his investigation. Couldn't have KID find his shoes at the entrance.

It surprised him how ordinary the house was. To the left a living room, to the right a kitchen. A seemingly vacant master bedroom on the ground floor, and stairs leading towards a second level with a supply closet, a bathroom and another room... fully furnished and obviously inhabited.
Shinichi crept as quiet as possible towards the door and pushed it just the tiniest bit open to peek through the slit. There was... no one?

Immediately, Shinichi relaxed, his pounding heart eased. KID was actually gone. He pushed the door open and stepped into his room, eyes flying over each and every object around him.
"So he's still in school..."
School books, neatly organized pens and everything else a teenager needed to attend his daily torture.
"About my age... I knew it."
Shinichi was pleased with himself, and yet it hatched only more questions. If this KID was a teenager... then who was the original KID?

His gaze fell towards the large poster on his left and immediately, he paused. That's right. He remembered. Kuroba Toichi, worldfamous magician. And this was the Kuroba household.
All of it made sense, in the span of a second he had solved the mystery behind the white clad magician. It made so much sense.
Kuroba Toichi was the first Kaitou KID, and with him the thief died as well. Who else was to pick up that mantle than his own son? Shinichi knew for sure this man had had a child, yet the name wasn't known to him.

Maybe he could find the name on one of those school books?

Shinichi turned and immediately marched over towards the desk. Flipping pages, searching. He needed a name, anything.

And suddenly, there it was.

Kuroba Kaito.

Shinichi swallowed dry, slowly returning the book to its place. His heart pounded with excitement. Kuroba Kaito, the worldfamous magician Kaitou KID.
He knew. He knew who he was now, he knew it all. His hands shook with pure adrenaline. He had to get out of here, he already knew more than healthy about KID, and there was no telling in what he'd do if he realized his secret had blown up.

Shinichi knew, he was going to disappear and abandon his identity. He had to prevent this.
The sleuth didn't want to overstay his welcome- he had to leave before KID got back home.

Shinichi turned and closed the door behind himself, then slowly took the the steps back down to the ground floor. Pandora was calmly sitting on a comfortable looking living room couch which had been modified to resemble a bed- obviously for said boy.
He felt his eyes on himself as he went to put his shoes back on... was Pandora going to tell on him? Of course he wasn't, he couldn't speak without causing chaos.

It didn't exactly look like Pandora was willing to move from his couch either, so Shinichi didn't bother to check back with him once he opened the door to leave.
He couldn't wait to get home, he had to organize his thoughts. Yet his storm of emotions rose once more as he realized what was about to unfold.

Voices were approaching.

"Shit...!"
Shinichi closed the door again, breath heavy. Shit shit shit! He peeked through the doorspy, only to see a boy eerily similar to him and a girl stop right in front of the house, hug each other goodbye-

..and then the boy approached the house.

Shinichi stumbled back from the door and sprinted into the master bedroom. He had to hide. He had to hide. His breath rang inside his ears as he heard the door open up behind him not a second later. Shinichi took off his shoes again and quickly jumped into the closet, begging to the heavens that KID wasn't going to search for him.

Please, Pandora, please keep quiet...

Kaito smiled as soon as he saw Pandora on the couch.
"Hey there, I'm back. Were you lonely without me?"
Kaito signed his words along, yet only received a smile as an answer. Nothing he wasn't used to. The magician plopped down next to his favorite gem, and turned on the tv to relax a bit. Gosh he needed that break.

Hours went by, and soon Kaito grew hungry.
"Hey Pandora, are you hungry? Food?"
Pandora perked up. Food. Food was something to eat. He nodded, excited, and jumped up to follow his friend into the kitchen to help him prepare a meal.

Shinichi flashed a glance at his watch. Three hours, and Kaito still blocked the way to the exit. If he would just go into his room! But no, he was stuck right here, right in this closet, with no way out.
The sleuth took a deep breath, mouth watering. What was that delicious smell? His stomach growled, enraged by the lack of food. And yet, there was no telling when he was able to leave the closet.

"I'm so hungry..."
His phone let out a soft beep and Shinichi flinched, immediately checking his messages.

Ran
Are you home? I brought you some leftovers.

Shinichi froze and immediately turned his phone to silent. Holy shit. That could have gotten him busted. He was glad Megure Keibu hadn't called him yet...

Shinichi was trapped, with no way out. He could only beg Kaito was going to go to bed soon enough.
