Aoko was so confused and worried at this point. Nakamori-keibu hadn't come home yet, even tho he was supposed to be already there waiting for her.
"I swear if this is about KID again..."
"KID retired, remember?" Kaito threw in, frowning himself. He was not going to be blamed for this, no way in hell. "Did he text you?"
Aoko shook her head. No, she would have noticed that, and she hadn't gotten any messages beyond her friends texting about the usual stuff.
"Maybe call up Division 2?"
Grabbing her phone, Aoko dialed the non emergency line for her father's place of work, only for nobody to pick up the phone, either. By now, she looked genuinely scared.
"Why is no one picking up at the station...?"
Kaito furrowed his eyebrows. He grabbed his own phone, and decided to call up the Division 1 headquarters. He had a bad feeling within his stomach, which only worsened as he found nobody picking up at Division 1, either.
"Who're you calling?"
"Division 1. They ain't picking up either, and Shinichi ditched me today. He didn't even text me."
Aoko immediately grabbed her bag, determined.
"We're gonna go there. There is no reason for nobody to pick up at either Division 1 or 2."
"Aoko stop. That could be dangerous, who knows what's going on there? I say we wait. Or try to contact a different station."
"Kaito you can't expect me to stay put when my dad's possibly in danger."
Kaito breathed out a frustrated sigh.
"Fine. Fine. But... we shouldn't go alone. I think I have an idea."
He grabbed his bag and shoes, putting them one while half hopping towards the door, with Aoko gasping and jogging after him. Well hopefully that was a damn good idea because she was not going to be wasting more time.
"Pandora?! Pandora!!"
Pandora shot up from the couch, bewildered. Well if he didn't know this voice just well. Confused, he poked his head out of the living room, only to stare at Aoko whom he had not seen prior in Kaito's home.
"Pandora. Come." Kaito demanded in Latin, beckoning him to come along. Surprised yet not displeased about going out with Kaito, Pandora hastily grabbed his shoes and jacket, following Kaito out of the door. Aoko was just confused at this point.
"Why do we need to take him? That's nothing for a boy like him, he's not even speaking our language. It's unsafe."
"Aoko, trust me. We need him for something like this."
"Why?! You're hiding something again, Kaito."
"Aoko, not now. Do you want to go looking for that old man or not?"
"I-... Fine. But you're always hiding things, Kaito. I'm sick of it. I feel like you don't trust me. I'm your best friend, Kaito. You can talk to me."
Kaito sighed loudly. Pandora seemed to sense the tense mood; and kept himself rather quiet just a step behind Kaito as the trio marched along the sidewalk towards the nearest train station.
"Look, I..." he began, unsure how to start. Could he do this? Could he actually tell her? It had been months since his last stunt as KID, since he had finally snatched Pandora off the earth.
"I'll... tell you once we've got this done and over with."
"Swear it."
Kaito paused once more. It was honestly worrying Aoko, seeing her friend so worked up about something like this. Finally, Kaito gave her a serious nod.
"I... promise. I just... nevermind. Let's just go."
Pandora quietly nestled his hand into Kaito's hoping to calm him a little down, and while he could see Kaito appreciating the silent support, his tension did not cease the slightest bit.
Within the train on their way to the Ekoda headquarters of Division 2, Aoko perked up once more.
"So... How's Pandora going to help us?"
"Aoko, can you promise me something? Don't... say his name in public."
"Why? Kaito... if this is another secret I swear I-"
"No." Kaito cut her off, resting his hand comfortingly on her knee, "I promised to tell you everything and I'm serious about this. I'll tell you afterwards. But if we're getting into danger, if there is no way out, trust me, Pandora's got this."
Aoko rose a small eyebrow and threw a glance at the silent boy next to Kaito, who kept looking out of the window with an excited expression. She obviously had her doubts and yet, she knew Kaito would never lie to her about something like this.
As soon as they arrived in front of Division 2, Kaito frowned. His danger senses were tingling, something wasn't right. It was too quiet here. Just a few people walking among the streets here and there, and yet, the doors of Division 2 remained shut. It almost seemed lifeless beyond those tainted glass doors.
Pandora gently tugged at Kaito's sleeve, a little worried, and Kaito flashed a glance down at him.
"If danger. Speak." Kaito spoke slowly, looking deep into Pandora's eyes. The lad's in return grew wide, and yet, he nodded.
Aoko watched this exchange with a soft frown.
"What did you say?"
"Aoko, the first thing you need to know about Pandora is... he's not like us. And he's not mute, either, against what I've told all of you. It's just that when he speaks... things happen. Bad things."
"Kaito I am not in the mood for your dumb jokes right now, I-"
"Aoko take me serious. I am not joking."
Aoko's mouth snapped shut immediately. It was unlike him to be so serious and harsh with her, but she felt like he was telling the truth. She eyed Pandora with some sort of gauging expression, before speaking up again.
"When he showed up to class... and opened his mouth... and you lunged at him..."
"I did it to protect you all. Pandora can control what he does, in some way. But at the same time, if he gets surprised, or startled, lets out any uncontrolled sound- it's going to be a bad time for everyone."
Kaito whipped out his phone and typed up a small text.
"Who on earth are you texting right now?!"
"Akako. Would be good to have at least someone know where we are if things go wrong- this just does not feel right around here."
Aoko took a small glympse at his screen and nodded. Damn, she nearly forgot about that.
Kaito slowly leaned against the door, opening it with a gentle creak. The trio flinched at the noise, yet managed it unharmed into the entrance way. Kaito didn't like this at all.
Where was the front desk policeman?
The radio was running on a sweet gentle tone, the lights were buzzing, and it would be such a normal day if it wasn't for the complete and utter lack of people around.
"Where the fuck is everyone..." Aoko whispered, a cold shudder running down her back.
"W-who is there...?!" a voice rang from behind the desk, frightened. Kaito rested a hand on his pocket- a small amount of flashbangs within, and peered over the desk to come face to face with a policeman who had probably just experienced a psychotic break.
Huddled under the desk, his gun in his hand, face as pale as a ghost and eyes wide with genuine terror.
"Kuroba Kaito. And Nakamori Aoko. We're looking for Nakamori-keibu. What the fuck is going on here?" Kaito stated carefully, hoping not to set off the man with a gun in his hand.
"I... don't know. Everyone just went... berserk. Shooting. Stabbing. Throwing themselves off the building. I-I..."
The man took a deep and shaky breath, clinging for dear life onto his gun.
"I-I just don't fucking know. I-I don't even know who is still alive. I-I just came to at the reception, and I hid here. That was... 15 m-minutes ago. Nobody's answering the back up request over the intercom, and I'm not fucking moving in there by myself."
Kaito and Aoko exchanged a serious glance.
What the fuck happened here.
