Everything came back. Her memories as a human mingled with those of her true self.  She wept at the memory of her friends, now long gone. She turned to the man under the concrete-- Theo Saxon.

"Why? These memories are horrible!"

He spat blood form his mouth. "Because those memories are you."

She shook her head and wiped away her tears. "I don't want to be! All those people I hurt! I would much rather be the Jess Daniels here on Earth."

He tried to shift himself. "Yeah, That's all fine and dandy, but could you help me over here? My regenerative powers can only do so much, you know. Wasn't expecting that explosion."

She realised that he did, indeed, have a new face. His hair was now dark brown, but his eyes were the brightest blue she had ever seen. She rose to her feet, cringing at the pain in her ankle. It was most likely sprained. She lifted the slab to the best of her ability, giving just enough room for him to slide out.

He brushed himself off and stood, wrapping his arms around her. His embrace condoned the same grief he expressed when she had met him in the TARDIS graveyard. She pulled away form him.

"Now, what about Jack? You wouldn't answer me when I asked you about him."

He squeezed the bridge of his nose, closing his eyes. "I am so sorry, Jessie, but... After you fell into the Vortex, he killed himself with the same defabrictor gun he shot you with. We tried to stop him, but it was too late. He was just so filled with grief."

She sank to her knees in despair. "You shouldn't have saved me."

"I saved you because--"

"It doesn't matter why you saved me. My friends are gone, my own brother is dead. Why do I live when they should be?"

He stared at his feet. "For my sake?"

She became silent, then stared at her necklace. "How many regenerations did you give me?"

"Just the one."

"Then you wouldn't have me for very much longer, would you? You would outlive me by centuries. What would be the point in that?"

"Does anything have to hae a point?"

She turned to him as he drew close to her. She reached out and touched his cane-- that dumb, wonderful cane. He smiled softly, as if tempting her ot smile as well. She lifted the corners of her mouth in a smirk.

He had a look of victory and he leaned in, their lips touching for the third time ever. She quickly turned his cane around so that the end faced her. Then, quickly as she could, she pulled the trigger.

There was a crack as the shot echoed in the room and Theo shook her by the shoulders. "No!"

She smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry."

"No, you can't just take the easy way out! That's not how it works!"

"What can I say? I like shortcuts."

She closed her eyes, her head falling back as her last breath exited her lips.
