The twins landed hard on the cement and Jack let out a yelp of pain. Looking around, he rubbed his knee in pain. " Jess, where are we, exactly?"
Jess stood and brushed herself off. "The TARDIS graveyard, of course. This is where our friend the Engineer works his... sonic wrench."
Jack looked hard at his sister. "Are you okay, sister of mine? You don't seem to be yourself..."
She turned to glare at him. "You mean now that I actually know stuff? Did you think I was an imbecile or something?"
"No, no! That's not what I meant!"
"Save it. We know about you, Jack Daniels. You best not get on our bad side."
"We...?"
Jess sashayed away, the striped scarf she had stolen from the Doctor catching the breeze. Jack scratched his head in confusion then pulled himself off of the ground. He rubbed his bruised knee in pain once more and looked around, noticing the parts of past TARDISes around him. Something about the machines unsettled him.
"Jess, where'd you go?"
She had disappeared. Not a thing moved, and Jack let out a long, nervous breath. The atmosphere almost glowed green, and the fog rolled down by his feet. The silence was almost unbearable, which reminded him even more of the fact his sister had abandoned him. A shiver went up his back, and he walked in the direction he believed she went.
A clang of metal.
Jack stopped in his tracks, standing stiffly, looking out of the corners of his eyes.
Another clang.
They were getting closer, he was sure of it. Where was Jess? She souldn't be out there on her own... No. He shook that thought from his head. He had to stop thinking of her a child. He might've been older, but she knew how to handle herself. He didn't know why he felt the way he did. After all, he was the one who wound up in the most trouble. She always knew how to get him out of it. He didn't know what he would do without his little sister.
A smirk crept to his lips, which was quickly swept up when a thought entered his mind. If all that was true, then what had gotten into her? Since they'd snuck on board the Doctor's TARDIS. she had been acting... strangely. Almost sinister. It was highly unlike her.
Another clang of metal, this time off to his right. A puff of smoke spewed from nowhere, and a figure came forth, coughing on the black cloud. The figure was now visible, and Jack could see he was donning overalls with grease all over them, a pair of cog-work goggles, a denim button-up shirt with rolled up sleeves, and clunky rubber boots. The man held a glowing wrench in his gloved fist. Could this be the Engineer?
"Engineer," he cautiously questioned. "Is that you?"
The Engineer let out a hacking cough. "Dang nab-it, can't you see I'm choking here? Now what do you want?"
"Umm, well... My sister and I were kind of looking for you."
The Engineer pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his coal-stained face. "Oh yeah? Do you want repairs too? I have a serious backlog of orders in case you couldn't tell, ya know."
"No, no. It's not that. You see-" He was interrupted by a figure emerging from the fog. His sister.
"We want you to tell us where the Thane is."
"Theo? What do you want with him? And how do you know him?"
"That's our own business," Jess snapped.
The Engineer scratched behind his ear and shook his head to himself. "I am getting too old for this..."
"And I am growing impatient, where is Teddy," Jess growled. She was highly unlike herself.
"You know only my sister can call me that," a voice sounded through the fog.
The Thane appeared through the fog, leaning on his cane. He came forward, and Jess recognised his second regeneration. The blonde hair and bright eyes did not fit how evil he truely was. The Thane surprisingly smiled warmly and extended a hand to the group.
"I see you have met my long-time friend, the Engineer. But come, Miss Daniels, why are the Niece and the Next Face of Boe looking for me?"
She crossed her arms over her chest, and Jack thought her eyes looked pure black, which was completely unusual, for her eyes where normally a bright green. His sister forced a smile ot her face.
"I thought we got off on the wrong foot. My brother and I don't want to be enemies with you. In fact, " she seemed to choke on the words. "We would like to be close friends."
The Thane's face softened even more, but something in his eyes was... secretive. The Thane approached Jack's sister, and handed his cane to the Engineer, who held it close.
"On the contrary, Miss Daniels, you and I are very close, indeed. We have been friends for a long time. I was just waiting until you realised..."
Jack's jaw dropped as the Thane cupped Jess's chin and planted a passionate kiss on her lips. Jess collapsed into Theo Saxon's arms, clearly weak at the knees. Jack stood there for a split second, unsure of what to do, then he grabbed the Thane by the shoulders.
"Get off my sister!"
Jess meekly mumbled. "Oh, don't punish him, Jack. It was a really good kiss."
Jack turned to his sister. "You really are insane! You hated this guy until a few seconds ago!"
Theo retrieved his cane and exchanged looks with the Engineer.
"Um, actually, those two were an item a while ago... Although, for you that would be in the near future... Confusing, isn't it?"
"Um, yeah! Why did this creep just make out with my sister?"
The Thane looked down at his shoes. "Um, probably because she's my wife..."
"WHAT?"
