Jess Daniels awoke in a dirty, dusty room, her head feeling light. On the other side of the room, pinned under a slab of concrete, lay the figure of a young man. He groaned in pain and spat up blood. His eyes found hers, and he spoke, a soft, tender sound that made her heart ache.
"Open it," He gurgled. "Open the locket."
She slowly pulled herself off the ground and grasped the locket hanging on a silver chain around her neck..
"But, it's just a locket. Nothing is inside it..."
"Open it." He burst into a fit of coughs, blood splurting out of his mouth.
"Who are you," She inquired. "Why do you want me to open my locket?"
"Just open it, you birdbrain!"
She jumped at his tone. Looking down at the locket, she traced the circular designs with her fingertips. the silver heart was magnificent, but simple. She found the latch that kept it closed, and opened the locket. A light shone out and enveloped her. She closed her eyes, the light blinding her. Then... she remembered.
