Bringing in her 25th birthday under the stars while fireworks went off, made things nostalgic for the newly engaged Ava. Finally, she felt as if her life was beginning to fall into place. She was happy. Grateful. Overwhelmed with love. With joy. But two weeks after Valentine's Day, she was presented with some news after missing two days of her period.
She wasn't sure how Lucky would feel. She was anxious. Elated but nervous. Would he be upset? Would he look at her as irresponsible? She didn't know until she showed him. There it was. Three different tests. Positive. Positive. Positive. She was terrified. But he wasn't. She had never seen him so joyful before until that moment. She was pregnant. They were. And it seemed as if Ace knew before either of them did.
The puppy was always trailing her. Following her into her studio. The bathroom. Hallway. You name it, he was there. He loved sleeping beside her and on her. He was a bit jealous of Lucky taking the attention but had to realize that he needed to share, although he preferred not to. Ava was his best friend. Nobody else's. But he shared the loved.
It was February the 27th, Lucky was with Kairo and Ava was at her store. The pair agreed to wait a few months before they told the family. When they got back from Philly and announced the engagement, King fainted. Renae and Dajon called him dramatic but he actually fainted. The family wasn't sure if they ever saw Lucky laugh so hard but baby boy was rolling.
Ava tried to call Assyria after Kaari told her that she asked for space. She regretted disobeying when Assyria cursed her out before hanging up.
"Morning,"
Glancing up from the folder, Ava looked around for the voice until she found Assyria, "Sy?"
"Hey," she muttered, clocking in before wandering away.
Placing the folder down, Ava followed after her. Catching her before she could go up front, Ava pulled her into the break room, "Hey... what's up?"
Assyria shrugged, looking down, "Am I fired?"
"No," Ava frowned, "What's going on tho? You had a breakdown when I was gone?"
"I'm straight," she mumbled, "Congrats tho," she nodded towards the ring. "Bout time he did it..."
Ava smiled, stepping forward but Assyria back up, "Congrats," she walked away.
Ava stared at the open door somberly, what did she miss?
Customers after customers swarmed the store. Trying to grab the last of the promo deals before Ava closed it. Winter clothes. Fall clothes. They were racking it in. Scarves. Headwraps. Shades. Handbags. Shoes. Lingerie. Nightgowns. Perfumes. Anything that was on sale, they were buying. Unknowingly making it easier for Ava to get the store ready for spring and summer. She got the shipment of her designs in early this morning and was hoping she'd have room for them.
She did. But she should have known the customers would never let her down. They acted as if she were the only clothing store in the city. But she loved it. She promised to keep prices affordable once she moved from online to physical and she kept her word, and customers. Old and new. They were buying.
Her uncles popped in after the two-hour rush to grab things from the men's department. At first, she wasn't sure if guys would buy from her but with Kairo's input and Dante's, she went for it, and just like her uncles, father, and brother showed up, so did other guys.
Kwan was a secret shopper of hers but she didn't mind it. It still hurt him whenever he showed up and laid eyes on the section she had in honor of his aunt. After all, Ms. Capri was her inspiration for getting into fashion. By 3, Ava headed out for lunch with Kayla and Michelle. She tried to get Assyria to come but she declined.
