" You've healed up quite nicely for a dog attack, " the doctor says smiling afterwards. I look at Grace in confusion but she only shakes her head in a nevermind manner, dismissing us we start to make our way to the reception desk to sign and leave. " So I was attacked by a dog? " I ask. " Oh yes, it came out of nowhere and just jumped, " she says while doing the actions causing me to laugh. " Since you are doing better how's about we have dinner tonight, " Grace suggests. " I can't the launch of the mining company is tonight and there is a celebration so I must attend or I will never hear the end of it from Alexander, " I say rolling my eyes at my brother who thankfully is not here to see, or I might get a lecture on respect. Turning around to exit the Hospital I bump into a young girl causing her to fall to the ground. " My apologies, " I say bending down to help her up. Taking my hand she pulls me down to her level bringing a frown to my face, " He's coming for you..., " she whispers in my ear a thick french accent evident in her voice. " What? " I ask confused pulling her up she doesn't say another thing and moves on. " You alright? " Grace asks. " I think so, " I say not entirely sure.
Sitting at my dresser I place my earings in each ear as Elaine does my hair. " What did the doctor say miss, " she asks, I share everything with Elaine. Well almost everything, she knows me inside out a lot better than my siblings. " Everything is healed and normal, " I say watching her finish my bun. " That's a relief, it must have been quite scary being attacked by a dog, " she carries on. If only she knew, at this moment I wish our lives could swap where I was the oblivious one and knew nothing. " Very, " I say. " All is well now, there you go all done, " looking through the mirror she gives me a warm smile.
I descend the stairs in my silk red gown that drags behind me, already hearing the music playing meaning the party has already started. Placing on my gloves I make my way to the noise, searching the room for one of my brothers. I notice Xavier talking to an elderly couple by their table. The ballroom was set with tables for the parties who showed for tonight's launch. The middle was left open for the dancing to commence. After the death of my parents, the mining company came to a standstill leaving many good men unemployed, now my brothers have managed to get it back onto its feet once again.
Making my way there to the now departing couple, Xavier notices me and gives me a smirk. " Your rather fashionably late, " he says chuckling afterwards. " Parden me for trying to look presentable, " I say rolling my eyes. "Who were those people you just spoke with? " " The Lockwoods, a family friend, " he says taking a large gulp of whatever he had in his glass. " When does this end, " I ask already wanting to retreat to my room. " Bored already? " he asks faking a surprised look. " I'm surprised you haven't found a new friend yet, Grace has you wrapped around her finger, " I say feeling a smirk crawl onto my lips. " Blady hell no! and who said I haven't found someone, " he says finishing his drink. " You are insatiable, " I say shocked at how much intercourse he has, by now he must have some disease. " You should try it, " he suggests. " And risk ending up like you, " " What's wrong with me? " he asks offended by my comment. " Mr Collins," we hear a new voice following it I meet lucifer, Huxley. " Mr Huxley so glad you could make it," Xavier stretches his hand out to shake with lucifers. " You must be Ms Collins, " he says, his piercing blue eyes staring at me in a much friendlier way. " Please call me Madeleine, we have already met, " I say giving him a warm smile. " Oh yes, in the hallway of the meeting room, " he says recalling that incident that causes my cheeks to warm. " Oh, so it was him you were sp... " before he can finish I kick the side of his leg which causes him to groan from the pain. " Anyway, I was hoping I might have the next dance with you," he asks. " Oh, of course, " smiling at him as he walks off. " That hurt, " he says through clenched teeth. " It was meant to, " I say walking off.
The next dance soon begins and I make my way to the centre where Lucifer waits. Noticing me a warm smile overtakes his features, he brushes a hand through his black hair keeping it slicked back. bowing before him the music starts at a slow rhythm causing our pace to be much more of a sway than dancing but it was still nice. " How does it feel, to be our first survivor in the council? " he asks out of the blue catching me completely off guard. " At this point, I might kill myself if I hear one more 'are you alright," I say causing him to chuckle. " They are just making sure your alright, although it's quite interesting to see you standing here," he says bringing a frown to my features. "What do you mean?" " Well naturally you should either be dead or one of them or..." he stops midway piquing my interest even more. " Or what?" I ask wondering if there is another reason why I'm still alive. " I don't think it's best to say now," he says through a sigh. " I'm curious please do share what you know, this may help to put me at ease," "Let's just say that these creatures do actually have a heart." I frown in confusion. Before I could say anything we are interrupted by a man dressed in black. He whispers into Lucian's ear. His whole body goes stiff once the man leaves bringing confusion to my face. " What's wrong," " Madeleine I think it is best if you retreat to your quarters, " he says worry evident in his eyes. " What is going on? " I ask an unsettling feeling forming in the depths of my stomach. " Madeleine, take this and go to your room, do not come out until I come and fetch you." Alexander appears out of thin air and
gives me a dagger, then does it dawn on me that they are here. I hold the dagger to my chest and start making my way through the crowd and upstairs. I proceed down the hallway towards my room and the further I go the softer the crowd downstairs becomes and all I can hear is my thundering heartbeat. The hall is dimly lit with candles yet the paintings on the walls portray shadows which is not helping my fear as much. I eventually make it to my room and lock the door behind me, I rest my forehead on the wood and release a breath I was not aware that I was holding. I hear something hit the floor which jolts my head up and I instantly turn to see what it is, holding the dagger at ready. I walk further into the room and find my mothers vase on the floor. My mother loved painting and decorating and she had designed this vase, decorating it with white roses and vines. As a child, it was my favourite piece so I keep it as a memory. I place the vase back on the table from where it fell and take a few steps back to admire it, as I walk back I bump into something or rather someone. Frozen in my place I feel their breath fan my neck causing my heart to jump.
