AN: So, new chapters will be coming don't worry I don't plan to make you wait this time ;)
Since the car has been destroyed and our chauffeur is dead we are left with only one option and that's walking. We have walked for about half an hour now and for that entire period he hasnt said anything to me. I notice that hes still limping, I thought they could heal from any wound but apparently I was wrong. I notice that he is still holding his side, "Can't you heal?" I ask after a while. I eventually found my voice after what happened but have kept quiet in fear that he may snap at me but his silence kills me I'd rather he lash out than he be quiet. Sadly he doesn't respond as we continue walking, I feel a fresh set of tears at him ignoring me. I suppose I had this coming but I wish he knew the reason.
Fitz groans while collapsing to the ground, instinctively I run to him. "Don't!" he says before I can even touch him, "Youre injured you need help," I say earning me an eyeroll. "I don't need your help," "Fitz," I try but he ignores me. He lifts his shirt revealing a very nasty bite, the blood hasn't stoped but what's worse is his blood has turned black. "Why havent you healed yet?" I ask to which he sighs before responding, "I can't heal his bite had poison in it." I watch helplessly as he pants for breath. "Well isn't there a spell to undo this?" I try. "It wasnt a natural bite Madeleine, it's a combination of both species, you cant just cast a spell and all is well!" he yells taking me aback. "I'm only trying to help you," I say softly only for him to chuckle. "Why don't you go and help that boy you killed back there or at least his family," he speaks with so much venom in his voice. I try to choke back a sob as more tears fall down my cheeks at his harshness. "He could have killed you," I say. "I am the only successful half breed, a product of my mothers experiment and the chaos of my father and you thought he could kill me?" he asks offended by the mere thought that he could lose. "Madeleine, are you alright?" We turn to find Cole with a few pack members running towards us.
"Blady hell what happened to you?" He asks an annoyed Fitz but helps him up. "We were attacked by Lucian," Fitz fills cole in on what happened as we are led back to their village. I realise as he explains the situation he doesnt once talk about my play in this, which I am thankful for but I am aware that I do not deserve this.
We soon make it back and valerie and a few other healers tend to Fitz while cole helps me. We sit outside their home as he brings me a warm cup of tea. "This will help with the after shocks," he offers to which gratefully take. We sit in silence for a hile before it is disrupted by Fitz screaming in agony. "Will he be alright?" I ask not making eye contact with Cole in fear that I may spill everything. "He should be, the poison wont kill him but it's best to remove it to be on the safe side, such experiments are unpredictable to their abilities but he was lucky you were there," he gives me a genuine smile his eyes reveal how grateful he is. If only he knew that the wolf was from his pack. "How'd you know that the silver would work?" "I didnt I just remembered what Valeries told me and thought it would be worth a try," I reply honestly. "Youre lucky the blood didnt get into your system that would a disaster," he says piquing my interest. "What do you mean?" "Well worse case scenario is if his blood entered your system in some way it could be poisonous to your body the best case is you shift," he says. I think back to the attack and try and remember if any of his blood entered my body but I come up blank.
"We are done my love," Valerie appears infront of us. "You can go see him if you like," she gestures to a cabin across from theirs. "I don't think he wants to see me," I reply remembering our earlier fight. "Well I seem to remember him calling for you in his haze," I look up at a smiling Valerie. "Go see him," she shoos me away.
I enter the cabin to find it similar to Valerie and Coles just smaller with only a bed. Fitz sits up at my arrival, his chest bare with bandage wrapped around his torso where wolf bit him. "Valerie says you will be better in the morning," I say earning no response. "Fitz you have every right to be angry with me-" "Why?" he asks interrupting me. I take a few moments to collect my thoughts before responding. "I wanted to protect my family from...you," I say the last bit quietly. "And experimenting on a child was the best way to do that?" he says scoffing. "I didn't know he was going to use a child," "That's besides the point Madeleine, you trusted Lucian and agreed to continue the experiments even after I told you what the outcome was and all for what to protect your family?" he mocks. I can feel the stinging of new tears but bite the inside of my lip to prevent myslef from crying further.
"You left me," I say after a while, "What?" he asks confused. "You left me," I say loudly. "Ever since we met Fitz I have been struggling with wrapping my head around all this, each time you come you leave dead bodies behind, you tell me to not trust my council, my people, my family over something that happened years ago between just two people, you threaten me and then the next time youre kind to me, I have been left suffering with your consequences and asking questions that you refuse to answer so what did you expect me to do? I am scared and alone in this and you left me like that for months." I finish with a long breath. "And naturally you turn to a delusional Lucian," he says sarcastically. "I turned to him because he was the only one giving me answers, my supposed mate wouldn't-" "I gave you answers-" "Yes half answers or you bring me here," I gesture to the the cabin. "I admit that what I did was wrong, I shouldn't have believed Lucian and now I am paying for my actions with a vision of a dead child and I get why youre upset because you were that child many years ago, I don't want your forgiveness because I don't deserve it but you have no right to blame this all on me," I say letting the tears fall freely.
"I can't trust you again Madeleine," he finally says after a while. "When did we ever trust each other?" Fitz and I havent navigated this at all, I don't know where we stand but I do know we arent the mates that we are supposed to be. Fitz is too scarred from his past to let someone in and I have forced him to build his walls higher after tonight but I cannot let him in because he left me on my own. Will we ever get past this I don't know. "I'm sorry," he says never making eye contact with me. I nod understanding what he means. "I need to go my-" "It's too late for you to go home besides you need rest," he says gesturing to the empty space on the bed beside him.
After cleaning up and Valerie finding me clothes I lay on the bed next to Fitz, the close proximity is very comforting. Fitz lays down too facing me and for a while we simply stare at each other. Eventually my eyelids become heavy and before I know it I pass out but before my body completely shuts down I feel his fingers graze my cheek and him say "I wont leave you again peach."
