"There was just chaos everywhere, people running and screaming, Xavier was handling the one brother while the other," I take a deep breath adding to the story as I relay everything to the court. In the council if ever in a position like Xavier, Grace and I were in we are required to report to court and state your case. I think it's ridiculous because Xavier gave a full report on it but Lucian insisted it was best to put each of us on stand to share what happened, while that happens they put us through tests to ensure we havent been bitten or anything. An entire trial that lasts a week but Xavier has reassured me that it will be over soon so long as Grace and I stay on the same page, and share the same information.
"He had me by the throat and I was losing consciousness, the next thing I hear is a ang and Xavier managed to shoot them both." I look up at Lucian, Alexander, Graces parents and a few other council members, praying my story is alright. "And please remind us why were you and Grace there again?" Graces mother asks with a disapproving look. "We were celebrating my engagement to Mr Huxley." I turn to find a smirking Lucian. Oh how I wish I could wipe that look off of his face.
"That will be all Ms Collins and we are very pleased to find you all in one piece." Once dismissed I walk out to find Grace waiting for me. "How was it, did they intimidate you, were you calm, did they ask impertinant questions-" "Grace it went fine, tomorrow is the last day and then we are free," I reassure her. "Have you seen him yet?" knowing who shes talking about I shake my head. I admit I have been eager to check on him but I wasn't sure if I'd be welcome after what happened, I suppose I should face the noise at some point. "You can't hide forever Madeleine." Yes yes as I have been reminded this whole week with these trials.
Following the trail towards their village, I feel my heart hammering. Will they be upset, will they kick me out. A million questions run through my mind but they halt when I stand infront of Valerie and Cole who patiently wait for me. I sent a letter notifying them that I would be coming to check on Fitz and havent received a letter back so I took it as a yes. "Valerie, Cole," I nod in greeting. Valerie gives me one her warm smiles while Cole simply nods. Sighing I brace myself for what I am going to say, "I want to apologise, I wasn't thinking when I turned to Lucian and as a result one of your people have no son well sons. I-" "Madeleine." Cole surprisingly takes my hands in his. "We're not angry with you, we know that it's alot to take in and Fitz hasn't made it easy for you, just know you are now part of this and we are always here." I feel warmth all over my body and smile at them. Valerie pulls me into a hug before they escort me to the hall where we find Fitz and a woman. He holds her body close to him while his head is buried in her neck, stoping in my tracks I realise what he's doing. "Fitz you have a visitor." Valerie clears her throat, catching his attention. Lifting his head the corners of his mouth are covered in blood, his eyes quickly attach to mine. He doesn't look like himself, his eyes are that black void, his hair is a mess and the veins around his eyes are more prominent now. He drops the body to floor causing me to shriek. I have seen him like this but that was our first encounter, I haven't grown accustomed to it yet. "How are you feeling after the incident at the club, Fitz tells me that your brother was there and saw everything," Valerie asks nonchalantly. I look at the womens lifeless eyes as she lays on the floor. "I havent told him anything but he has asked, alot has happened recently-" "Like your supposed engagement to Lucian," Fitz interrupts me. His eyes have gone back to normal but they still hold that emptiness. "Lucian proposed to you?" Valerie asks surprised, "No, um he asked my brothers and I was simply told about it." I put it simply. Valerie and I have grown close but not as close as Grace and I.
"Leave us," Fitz speaks as he sits on the stairs. Cole raises his eyebrows in surprise before folding his arms. "Are you sure you should be giving commands in your shape?" he glares at an unfazed Fitz. "Please leave," he asks with a sigh to which Cole smiles and pulls Valerie with him.
"No," he says confusing me as where the conversation is going. "What?" "you will turn Lucian down," he clarifies. "Incase you have forgotten I don't have a choice in this, it was decided by the council-" "It's quite simple actually you say no, he can't force you into a marriage." "He can if hes holding something over you," I say. "So let me see if I have this right." he sits up, sighing I take a seat on one of the benches. "You killed someone and you fear that your family will find out about it especially the part where hes an experiment created to kill your mate whom you have been seeing behind their backs because you have mixed emotions about him." "Simply put yes, and I do not have mixed emotions about you-" "You sure? Cause one minute you were scared of me the next you indulge me and then try and kill me and now..." he gestures for me to finish. "I do not have mixed emotions," I sternly say. "Really then what do you currently feel for me?" he raises his brow in challenge. "I tolerate you but you vex me," I say smiling at his rolling eyes. I wouldn't mind if this was us in future. "Liar." "Liar!" I hold my hand to my chest offended. "Yes if I truly did vex you you wouldn't be here," he says smirking at me. Maybe I care for him but that's as far as it goes. The room becomes tense as he waits for my response but I have nothing to say, noticing this he stands and makes his way to me. My heart quickens the closer he gets and beats rapidly as he sits facing me. Quickly grabbing my waist he pulls me onto his lap, "Why are you here if I vex you Madeleine?" "I blame the bond between us, one minute I am in control of my emotions the next I'm here," I confess absent mindedly. "Was that you or the bond now?" he grins at my rolling eyes.
He runs his thumb over my lips and the contact erupts a sigh from me. "Why do I vex you?" I take a moment to think before answering. "Because you kill people." at this we both giggle. He moves his hand to cup the side of my face, his brown eyes holding so much curiosity as they stare into mine. "Is that all?" he asks as his face gets closer to mine, my mind is muddled I cannot think straight at this point. "You confuse me on what you want," I admit as I stare at his full lips. "Let me make it easier this once, I want to kiss you." before I can comprehend his words, his lips descend onto mine. I can taste the blood of the girl he killed but I don't have time to dwindle on it before he lifts me higher so that I straddle him. I wrap my arms around his necks and place my fingers in his hair as I deepen the kiss. My stomach burst with a sensation I'm not used to but don't want it to go away. Unconsciously I rock my hips and hear a groan erupt from him, loving the sound I continue.
My joy is short lived when flashes of the council appear in my mind, the people one by one appear and then the place where we reside. Breaking the kiss I realise what just happened, he was in my head. How? I don't know, probably one of his many gifts. And now he knows where the council is. He scrunches his brows looking confused at me, "Whats wrong?" He pants. "Thinking of something we shouldn't?" the grin is slow as it spreads across his face. He he, I don't know what he did but he knows. Jumping off his lap, I instinctively slap him across his face the sound echoing across the hall. "How could you?" I ask feeling my heart break once again into thousands of pieces, only this time I actually cared. He stands up and grasps my hands, I try and wiggle free but he grip only tightens. "You let your guard down." stoping I stare into his amused eyes, he knew what he was doing. Is this all he wants? Revenge for Anastasia and to kill Lucian. I feel as though he riped my heart out and stepped on it, how foolish of me to think we could ever be normal. He lets go of my hand and strokes the side of my face. I take the opportunity to withdraw my dagger and this time I don't hesitate, I drive it straight into his abdomen. He groans as his other hand loosens around mine and he crouches holding the dagger. "It wont happen again." I leave him there as I walk out the hall in search of Valerie.
I eventually find Cole walking out of his cabin, noticing me his face morphs into worry. "Why didn't you tell Fitz where the Council was?" I ask, he looks confused at first but answers none the less. "If he knew and came there, you'd be in trouble, I thought it the best way to protect you. That is why I was there ppersonally, to ensure that if he did ever find out I could stop him from making your life miserable, why do you ask?" "He knows where they are and I don't know what he'll do," I confess.
