"Benn," Miranda Called.
"Benjamin," She repeated; she reached her arm out in the bed next to her, nothing.
"Benjamin Warren" Now she was getting worried. Where was he?
He was there just a moment ago. She reached for her phone, no message.
She sat up to turn on the light. She saw a note on the nightstand.
"Five Alarm fire. Didn't want to wake you, be back as soon as I can; love you."
Now she really was worried, she knew her husband was good at what he does, but a five-alarm fire was a big thing. She got out of bed to check on the kids; Tuck and Joey were in the living room playing the game. Little Miss Pru was in her room taking a nap.
"Hey, Mom" "Hey, Momma B," The boys said. "Hi, my boys" She gave a loving smile and went back to her room. She was happy that all of her kids were home safe, but the thought of her husband fighting that five-alarm fire unnerved her.
Miranda sat on her bed and cut the tv on to her to take her mind off her husband, but it hadn't seemed to help.
About an hour later, her phone rang. She looked over, knowing that it wasn't the hospital or her husband calling because it wasn't either of their ringtones. She held her breath as she answered the phone. Hanging up, she let out a breath as it was just an automated call.
Her phone rang again; she didn't bother to pick it up this time. Her phone buzzed, then it rang again. This time there was a name, Andy Herrera. Her heart sank.
"Hello?" She answered. "Bailey." There was a slight hint of pain in her voice. Miranda knew this couldn't be good. "Bailey, uhm Miranda, I uhm, you uhm." At this point, Miranda knew what this call was. She knew what this was about. Her heart was breaking, "Herrera, no," She said firmly, hoping that for once she was wrong.
"I'm so sorry" That was it; Miranda couldn't breathe. She swore that she was having another heart right there.
"BENNN!!" She bellowed.
"Miranda!" "Mirandaa" "Are you okay?"
Miranda opened her eyes to find her husband, Ben looking at her with concerned eyes. "Are you alright, babe?"
Miranda's eyes swelled with tears when she realized it was just a dream. A nightmare. She wouldn't dare tell him the details. She just hugged the man she loved with her whole being tightly. Ben kissed her head.
"I love you so much." She said into his chest. Ben pulled her off and took in her appearance, gorgeous as always, but this time he could see the fear in her eyes and the dried tears on her cheeks. "I love you too, but what's wrong, Miranda?"
Miranda wiped her face, "I'm okay, I promise. As long as you are okay, I'm okay." Ben laid back and pulled her on his chest, holding her. "I just can't believe Ifeya would ever speak those words over you." She said, looking into space as she tightened her grip on her husband.
Ben sighed. He knew what this was about. Ifeya's comments had unraveled his wife. With a loss that hit so close to home, it had her on edge, and fighting for Pru wasn't helping her nerves either.
"Hurt people, hurt people." He replied and kissed the top of her head. Hell, he was still hurting too. Although that didn't give Dean's parents the right to act the way they were, they were all hurting. He heard his wife start to sniffle again. He pulled her up so that they were face to face.
"Hey." "Hey yourself." she scoffed. "I will always come back to you." He placed a soft, reassuring kiss upon her lips, lingering just a little. "Plus, I told you I'd let you die first," He said with a shrug and chuckle. Miranda let out a breath and mushed his face.
"That's still so wrong," she giggled. "And I got a laugh, people!" Ben laughed loudly at his win. "Shhush! Before you wake the boys," Miranda said, giggling. "I love you" They kissed again. This time with so much love and admiration, trying to convey their love for each other.
"I still can't believe Pruitt woke up crying for me," Miranda said as she slid off her husband and laid on her back, looking up at the ceiling. This whole situation had her emotions all over the place.
"I bet Ifeya was so mad!" Ben said with a hearty laugh. Miranda joined in. "I can't blame Pru, though; I would wake up crying for you, too," he said as he turned on his side to look at his wife. Miranda hit him playfully. He pulled her close and nuzzled his face in her neck.
"I really want this, Ben, but I'm scared." He knew what it took for his wife to open up, so he never took it for granted. He knew that he couldn't promise her that they would get Pruitt, so the best he could do was tell her that he was in this with her. Ben sat up and looked at his wife, "I want this too. But most importantly, this is what Dean wanted for his daughter. He said we were the best parents he knew."
"You know I did notice that Bill corrected Ifeya and called her Pru on the phone; maybe they're coming around." "I hope so."
"Ugh, I still cannot believe Ifeya. She was so disrespectful today," Miranda said. "They are grieving parents Miranda." "That's still no excuse! I wanted to slap her so bad!" Ben chuckled in response.
"You act like you weren't livid, too. Mister, 'Don't talk to my wife that way'" She joked." I was, but I have to say the way you defended me was so hot! A real turn-on." Ben winked at her. "Oh yeah?" She asked, finally looking at her husband. "Yeah, real sexy. What was it? Oh yeah, 'a hero,'" He said with a smirk.
Miranda rolled her eyes. "Don't let that go to your head. It's already big enough." She laughed. Ben mocked her silently, "Oh, I do have a big head, but it's not the one you're talking about." She blushed. The thought made her hot.
"You are so nasty," She replied. "And you like it." He said, wiggling his eyebrows. He ran his hand down her thigh. There goes the ocean. She rolled her eyes, "You're right, come here," She said, pulling him over her as she brought him down for a kiss.
