I feel like we should have been about to see this scene in Grey's, so I decided to write it. Enjoy!

"Alright, Baby Girl, we've had our cookies and read your books. It's now time for you to go to sleep."

Pruitt began to pout and reach for Miranda. It seemed like she had mastered the Bailey eyes, "Sing Randa, Sing," she asked.

With a small sigh, Miranda sat back down on the bed and cuddled with Pru as she began to sing a lullaby to her. Pru tightened her grip on Miranda, content and comfortable. Sleep soon took over, and Miranda was able to lay her back down and tuck her into bed.

Before leaving the room, Miranda kissed her baby girl on the head. Backing away, a smile formed on her face as she looked at Pruitt. This is what she had wanted, a little girl. While Pruitt could never replace Dani in her heart, she knew that she had so much love to give to the little girl.

After turning on the baby monitor and leaving the door cracked, she went to check on her boys. They were in the living room playing their video game.

"Alright, boys, keep it down; Pruitt is sleeping for the night. In 30 minutes, I want you both to get ready for bed as well; you have school in the morning." She mothered.

"Yes, ma'am," rang from the mouths of her boys.

Finally, she was able to retire to her room. Miranda closed the door firmly, something she only did when everyone was asleep, but she needed this.

She needed time. She needed to breathe. After she closed the door, she turned and placed her back on it, trying to catch her breath.

It all kind of hit her at once. So much had happened today, and she still was trying to process it.

She really quit her job. Miranda clicked her teeth at the thought. She had to put herself first.

The residency program was really shut down. Her birthplace and home for well over 15 years.

She was dumbfounded. Borderline hysterical. Wow, she thought.

Webber's lack of respect for her as chief was confirmed, and to make matters worse, it was by someone from the outside looking in.

Her whole world was upside down, and weirdly, she found peace.

The tears that had formed in her eyes threatened to fall. She pushed her tongue to the roof of her mouth and thought back over her day.

She couldn't help but laugh. It hurt like hell, but she couldn't focus on that.

It amazed her how after a string of messy men held her position, she was the one left with the fallout from things they put into policy.

She was the one who had to deal with a rapist on the loose in her hospital and an explosion. Not to mention the cyberattack, a forced residency program management change, a boycott from her surgeons, and the icing on the cake, Covid.

Not to mention her own personal issues she has had to deal with. Everything from her heart attack to Ben's Cancer, their miscarriage, and her own mother's death.

There was just so much happening in her life, and it just felt like she was just in the motion of things. She had given her whole life to that damn hospital and broke her back, trying to save it alone.

This was her time to focus on herself and her family. She earned this; hell, she deserved this.

Pulling herself back together, she went to take a long hot shower in an attempt to relieve some of the stress off of her body.

As she was lotioning her, Ben walked into their bedroom. "Hey, Baby," He called as he walked over to hug her.

Still, in her head, Miranda gave a faint smile and replied, "Hi, Hun," as she placed a kiss on his cheek.

Her demeanor did not go unnoticed by her husband; he knew her too well. He decided he would ease into it. "I see you and Pru made cookies. Did you both enjoy yourselves?" He asked.

Miranda responded with a simple head as she finished lotioning, sliding on her nightgown.

"Alright, Miranda, what is going on?" He inquired as he blocked her from getting into the bed.

He placed a hand under her chin, lifting it so that she would look him in the eyes. He could see all the pain, exhaustion, and anger in them. But interestingly enough, he also saw relief.

"Miranda," he called.

She pouted and took a deep breath, "I quit my job today." She watched as her husband's facial expressions changed rapidly. He looked confused and concerned. Although she could see the understanding in his face.

"Wow, uhm," Ben tried to find the words to respond to his wife, but none found him. He knew everything that was going on with the hospital and that her stress levels were up, but he still couldn't find the words. He just pulled her into his arms and hugged her tight.

In Ben's arms, Miranda found herself in full-blown tears the moment he engulfed her. The laughter from earlier was now gone; the situation was no longer funny.

"I jus- I just have to me put first, Ben. I have to put us first." She cried.

Ben shushed her as he continued to rub her back. Once he heard her breathing regulate, he pulled back from her some to look her in her face.

"They shut the program down, Ben because they said that the power dynamic is too confused." She informed him.

"Well, what does that mean?"

"They said that Richard doesn't respect me or the power I have over him, and Meredith doesn't respect Richard or his authority over her." Miranda sighed.

"I- I don't even know what to say, Miranda; I'm so sorry." Ben voiced.

"You know Grey Sloan was my home for a long time. It's where Dr. Miranda Bailey was born. It hurts to see the institution that built me fall, especially under my leadership. It just really hurts, even though I know it's not my fault." Miranda wiped her eyes.

"But oddly enough, I still feel a sense of relief. I've spent so much time giving my all to that damn hospital, and now it is time for me to focus on my own health and my family. We have a new little girl that we get to raise." Miranda touched Ben's face. "We have a whole lot of love to give, and we have so much reconnecting to do of our own; this had to happen. We needed this, hell, I needed this"

A smile crept onto Ben's face, "You are amazing" He wiped her remaining tears. "You are a superstar Miranda Bailey." She looked up into his eyes, and she could see the amazement and love he held for her.

"Thank you, baby" Miranda pushed her bottom lip out, asking him to kiss her. Ben happily obliged her wish.

"Come on, it's been a long day. How about you get some rest." Ben pulled the covers back so that Miranda could get in.

Once she was in, Ben went to take a quick shower and then joined her in bed. He could tell that she was still in her own head. So he pulled her onto his chest, rubbed her back, and listened to her exhale. Kissing her head, they fell asleep in each other's arms.
