Miranda stood in the mirror, taking in her appearance. As her hands slid down the front of her, her mind flashed back through all of her favorite memories. She was reminiscing about the fact that the first time she didn't like this, hell, and the second time she did it, it felt even worse.
"I love you too much! It's too much!...... But you.....Like you are a piece of me, I love you," Miranda expressed.
She smiled at her thought, flashing to another moment in time.
"Behold, everything the light touches is yours. Congratulations Chief." With that, her husband placed a kiss on her head.
The memory warmed her heart and helped confirm everything she was thinking about. All of the things that they had been through. She loved that man with every fiber in her body.
As she straightened her hairclip, she thought back to just a few months ago when they had to stop and realign themselves with each other.
"Don't let go," She had begged. "Hell no," Ben replied as they held onto each other like it was the last time they'd ever get to hold each other.
She smiled; they had found their way back to who they were together before all of the extras came into play. This was the next step; this was what they needed a complete restart. This time, this time, it was right. It was so right, and there was no doubt in her mind.
As she stepped away from the mirror to put on her shoes, she thought about how he got her to even agree to this again.
"Miranda, you need to take a day. You need to breathe." Ben told her as she was getting ready for bed.
"No, Ben, I can't, not right now. My hospital is falling apart." Miranda said, letting out a breath as she grabbed the drawers in front of her, trying not to cry.
Not before long, Ben appeared behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "It all doesn't have to be on you; that is what your chiefs of each department are for, and make Webber pull his weight."
She let out another breath; she turned in his arms, touching his face, thinking about how foolish it all sounded to her. If it was that easy or if she could do that, it would be all the better by now. No, she had to be the one to fix it.
"And I know you are in your head right now, trying not to tell me if only it were that simple, but honey, it is. You cannot stress yourself out like this. The boys need you, Pru needs you, and most importantly, I need you." Ben said, lifting her chin so that their eyes could meet.
Miranda rolled her eyes in response and moved out of her husband's arms to get in the bed. Once Ben joined her, he pulled her into him and nuzzled his face into its favorite space, "Miranda Bailey, I love you, and you got this........Chief." She could feel the butterflies in her stomach in response to her husband, he was the only one that knew how to make her feel so special, and she was genuinely thankful for him. "I love you too," she whispered as sleep began to catch her.
A few weeks later, after reluctantly taking her husband's advice and delegating the work that needed to be done, they were almost in the clear of everything they needed to fix; Miranda still didn't want to take any time away from the hospital for fear of what may happen, but managed to convince her to trust her staff for two days, to just decompose and destress.
Destress indeed she did; Ben had taken care of all the stress she had and helped her to pull herself back together. The night before she returned to work, they sat in the bed doing a crossword together, something they hadn't done in a long time.
"This is harder than I remember," Miranda expressed with a pout. "It has been a while," Ben chuckled as he got up to stretch his body.
"Refresh?" Miranda read the next clue." How many words?" She counted quickly, "7" "Oh wait! Renewal, right?" She asked. When she hadn't heard a reply from Ben, she looked at him to find him down on one knee beside her. Instantly her eyes were prickled with tears. She knew what this was.
