Miranda took a deep breath laying in bed thinking for the millionth time about her decision to leave Grey-Sloan. She's spent her whole surgical career in that one place, and she just willingly walked away. She had her dream job and everything she wanted for her career but at what cost?
She had a husband that she rarely saw. Two teenage sons that seemed to be growing faster than she could comprehend. The icing on the cake was the new little girl that they fought to have the privilege to raise.
During her tenure at Grey-Sloan, it was the most stressful and exhilarating time of her life, but the stress was just becoming too much. She was tired of being the only one who seemed to care about the hospital. Losing the accreditation for the residency program was the last straw for her. She had given so much of herself to that damned hospital, and her health was whittling away in the process.
It was time that she focused on other parts of her life and put that same energy into her family. She finally had a little girl to love, to comb her hair, and teach her how to have a voice in the world. She had two beautiful boys, both of whom are just about adults.
And her husband. They had been so disconnected lately with everything that was going on; now they would finally have the time to reconnect.
Miranda looked over at her clock and let out another breath. No need to rise early like she usually did. She had nowhere specific to be today. She took the time to take in all of her newly found freedom.
Lost in her thoughts, she didn't hear the knock at her door. It wasn't until she felt a little hand touch her arm that she was aware of little Pruitt. "Randa," she called as she rubbed her eyes.
"Awe, baby girl, Good Morning," she said as she pulled Pruitt up onto the bed with her. Pru snuggled into Miranda's side as she pulled her in. "How about we relax today?" she offered. Pru nodded in agreement.
Miranda reached over to the nightstand to grab the remote. She turned on Gracie's corner for them to watch. The little show had the nerve to be catchy, and Miranda loved that the little kids looked like Pru, and Pru seemed to love it. It was a win-win.
Before long, the boys came into her room to say goodbye before heading off to school. Giving both Miranda and Pru kisses on the cheeks and I love yous, they were on their way.
After a few more Gracie's Corner videos, they got up, brushed their teeth, washed their faces, and headed to the kitchen for breakfast.
"What would you like to eat, baby girl?" Miranda asked as she sat Pru in her highchair.
"Pancakes!" Pru said excitedly. "Pancakes it is!"
With that, Miranda and Pru made their pancakes together. Miranda grabbed some fruit from the refrigerator for them to have with their pancakes. They sat and enjoyed their breakfast together playfully.
As they finished their breakfast, Ben came in from his 48-hour shift.
"How are my two favorite ladies?" He asked, kissing Pru's head and giving Miranda a quick peck on the lips.
"We are doing good. Miss Pru here, and I made pancakes," Miranda said, tickling Pru.
"Any left for me?" Ben asked.
"No, me and Randa only," Pru said with a smile.
"You heard her," Miranda encouraged with a chuckle.
"Oh really?" Ben asked as he began to tickle Pru.
"I share, I share," Pru giggled.
"Thank you"
"They are in the microwave, Hun," Miranda pointed.
