The book had been out for two weeks, and I was about to do my first book signing. The first one was being held at the downtown Barnes and Nobles. Lynne had made a few of the articles online with her face popping up next to mine. Most of them were from when we were out to eat for lunch. It was odd seeing us on the pages of a tabloid. My mother was aware that I would be coming out and showing my true face as Cannon River emailed me every article she found my name on. She was able to keep more of an eye on me from Florida, with me revealing my true identity. When she saw the dedication to the book... Now that was a different story.

"Ian," she says when I pick up the phone.

"Mom," I say, already knowing why she is calling.

"Why didn't you tell me?" she demands, and I can hear the hurt in her voice.

"I screwed up the first time around," I say. "I wanted to make sure before I told anyone."

"I know you screwed up. I read your book... How she took you back... And she knew the whole time we were out at lunch that day... Why didn't she say anything?" she asks.

"I don't know why she didn't tell you that day at lunch," I say, and Lynne's eyes jump up from the work she was working on. "She is right here if you want to ask her?" I ask back into the phone. Lynne shrinks to my side, and I suppress a laugh.

"Don't petrify the girl," my mother says loud enough for Lynne to hear her. "I will ask her in person when I see you next," she says, hanging up after she says love you.

The first week after the novel had been released, half of Lynne's family members had been reached out to make a statement on our relationship. The only one who took the bite was Mandy, who said she knew who I was the whole time. I was grateful she never let my real name as Ian slip.

"Ha, have you seen this one?" Lynne says, holding up the iPad I had gotten her showing both of our faces on the screen with the title saying "Hottest Couple of the Year."

"I like that picture of us," I say, pinching my fingers on the screen to zoom in on her face.

"Who would have thought..." she says.
