Dyrroth's Romance

"Ruby, do you have a Valentine this year?" Guinevere asked. The two of them shared the cake she bought in the lounge of the fighter's household. They were talking about various things they've encountered during their adventures so the sudden change of topic really caught the girl off guard.

"Well, no. Unless someone actually likes me that way I guess I really don't."

"But don't you always spend time with that former demon prince slash new prince of light? Aren't you like a thing?" Guinevere prodded on with a sky smile.

"You mean Aurelius? He and I are just friends. I just like to hang out with him because he's so cool and all that but we're strictly platonic. I think he likes Selena or something." Ruby blushed and hid her face behind her cup that did little to cover her pink cheeks.

"Really? Then why has he been looking at you with longing from the distance like some lovestruck high school girl?"

"Huh? What are you talking about? He's not—" Ruby cut herself off when she turned around and saw Aurelius suddenly hide behind a wall when their eyes met. She didn't fail to notice the panic on his face when he was discovered. The prince retreated back to the wall but his head would poke out ever so slightly.

"You should definitely talk to him. Maybe he has something to say to you like 'Will you marry me, Ruby?' or something like that." teased the auburn-haired while poking her cheeks.

"I don't think it's like that. Maybe he wants to join me in my quest tomorrow. He definitely likes adventures and fighting monsters."

"Sure or maybe he likes to spend time with you. Now get out there and meet your prince charming."

"Fine, fine." Ruby finally got up from her seat and walked over to Aurelius' hiding spot.

"Uhhmm... Hey, how have you been doing? Is there something you want to tell me?"

"Well I really like you and I think that we're destined for each other! Please go out with me tonight!" Aurelius suddenly blurted out astounding her with his straightforwardness. His face was so red with embarrassment that he looked like he wanted to bang his face against the wall or for the ground to swallow him up so that he could disappear after his outburst.

"Oh! Wow... I did not expect that."

"Gods, why are you such a creep, Aurelius? You could have started with pleasantries or something. Give her the lettuce maybe." The prince muttered to himself but Ruby was able to hear him.

"Lettuce?" the girl repeated making sure that she heard correctly. His heart nearly melted due to how adorable her eyebrow scrunched to signify her confusion.

"Here." Aurelius handed her a nice bouquet wrapped in pink paper and tied together with an expensive-looking purple ribbon.

"Oh, it really is a lettuce."

"I asked the guys what I should give to a girl I like and they said I should give you something pretty. They said that flowers are overrated and forgettable so I should give you something that you could use or eat..." his voice began to trail as his confidence vanished by the second.

"So this is what you came up with?" Ruby gave him a soft smile providing him with some relief. If it was some noble girl or princess they could have thrown the vegetable at his face and screamed at him but Ruby is so nice. She accepted his gift and even hugged it to her chest. What a lucky lettuce it must be to be pressed so close against her—what the hell was he thinking?! No! Stop that you dirty bastard! You need to show Ruby some respect!
