Xiaojun's point of view

I roll my eyes ignoring my phone's annoying ringtone. Arie gives me a look of disapproval before turning over in bed. I chuckle to myself, she's always so jealous assuming the worse.

When in actuality it's an old mafia lackey of mine named Cole. He's been blowing up my phone non-stop, the fucker even emailed me. Who the hell uses email?

Arie: We better get up, Chenle and Jennie are coming over this morning for breakfast.

Ever since marriage counseling things between my wife and I have been better. She doesn't run away anymore and Chenle hates me less.

After a quick shower I go downstairs to help with breakfast. More like I cook the entire breakfast because Arie's cooking is just.... yeah.

Me: Cina's kid is kinda' bougie, so should I make scrambled eggs or?

Arie laughs pushing me slightly.

Arie: Jennie is a sweetheart!
Me: Nobody that came from Kang Yeosang is a sweetheart.

The door opens and the two guests of honor walk in.

Arie: Hey guys! Jennie you look pretty as always.
Jennie: Thank you, and thank you for having me over.
Arie: Of course.

Chenle gives me a head nod.

I rub my temples. Who raised him?

Arie: So how's school?
Chenle: Stressful.
Jennie: I have a lot of honor courses, but not too bad.

I blink.

Honor courses but not too bad? Being a senior in high-school already seems like hell but dumping in honor classes too? Sounds like death.

Chenle: How's the restaurant and daycare?

Arie sighs.

Arie: I got three new kids on Monday, they're triplets and very spoiled.
Jennie: How old?
Arie: Five.
Me: I'm a little understaffed at one of the restaurants, you still looking for a job?

He scoffs.

Chenle: Not a chance. Remember Wonnie and I helped you the one Saturday and that old lady threw a steak at me?
Me: Miss Sheila? She's a regular and very harmless.
Chenle: It gave me a black eye.
Me: Hwasang cooked it like a brick.
Jennie: My brother can't make ice.

Neither can Arie.

"I SMELL FOOD!"

I pause mid bite.

Me: Who let you in my house?

Hajoon: Am I not your nephew? Don't be selfish.

The boy in question helps himself to plate.

Hajoon: Anyways I stopped by because my mom wanted to remind you of family dinner Sunday. Grandma will be in town.

Ew, why would I want to see my mother?

Me: Yeah tell Char it's going to be a no for me.
Arie: Your mom has been reaching out a lot lately.
Me: And she can continue to reach until her arms break. Bitch put me out at fourteen.

Chenle tsks.

Chenle: See in therapy Mrs.Santana would say the first step is..-
Me: Shut up.

He shrugs.

Hajoon: Either way I'm just the messenger. Don't shoot me, see ya!

I'm pretty sure Char will be blowing up my phone later about this and my answer will be the same no.

Me: So back to my question, jobs at my restaurant?
Jennie: Do you need waitresses?
Me: Of course.
Jennie: I wouldn't mind putting in a few hours.
Chenle: Then I'll come too, I don't want any of your weird ass ex-mafia friends touching or looking at her.

I scoff.

Me: Like I'd let that happen.
Arie: Chenle you should take Jennie to meet your grandma. Char would enjoy that since your dad is too proud to go.

I raise an eyebrow.

Me: Too proud? It's not about that and you know it.
Arie: Your not a teenager anymore, it's time to forgive her and have a conversation about it.

Before I can say anything Chenle beats me to it.

Chenle: Mom you and I grew up spoiled, we don't know what kind of trauma he had to go through. The man became a mafia boss at like eighteen. And now he's a grown cranky man.

Alright...

Chenle: It's going to take some time.
Arie: You're right. Im sorry, when did you become so responsible?
Jennie: Since he started dating me.

I laugh, it's true.
