Cheri's point of view

There's never a normal day when you have a father like Jung Wooyoung. A few years back I explained to my dad that I'm non-binary and of course like many adults he didn't grasp what that meant so I broke it down to him.

As any supportive parent he accepted it with open arms and also became an activist in the same breath.

Which brings me to now as I wait for him to be released from jail. Mr.San taps his foot unamused at the shenanigans of his best-friend. My dad comes from the back rubbing his wrist.

Dad: Handcuffs are uncomfortable.
San: Oh the sadist isn't usually cuffed right?
Dad: Not in front of Cheri!

I sigh rolling my eyes.

Me: Dad you shouldn't have done that. It wasn't a big deal.
Dad: It was to me!
San: What happened anyways?
Dad: I took Cheri to get their license and the DMV bitch..-
Me: Dad!

He woosahs.

Dad: The DMV dude, kept misgendering them after we clearly corrected his dumbass over and over.
San: So what'd you do?
Dad: Beat his ass duh.

Once we're home my dad hears an earful from my mom. To which he yells back and there's a never ending screaming match. God, I wish they get a divorce already.

I shut my bedroom door, a tap at my window makes me jump. Beomgyu waves back and forth making me stumble over my own feet to pull him through.

Me: The window?
Beomgyu: I tried to be romantic.

He kisses me making me smile.

It quickly falls once the yelling gets louder.

Beomgyu: Do you want to go to my house instead?

I nod sadly.

__

I thank Mr.San as he hands me a cup of hot chocolate.

San: You know you're always welcomed to stay here.
Me: Thank you.
San: I think your parents fight so much because they still love each other, but they also know it maybe time to..-

He slows down his words trying to say the next words carefully. I shrug.

Me: Divorce? I wish they'd hurry up.
San: Really?

I nod my head.

Me: I love my parents but I love them separately. I feel like all of us would be a better family separately. It seem like Chenle has been much more happy since his parents divorced too!

Chenle spends lots of time with his dad and his mom too. He saids they're cordial whenever they have to talk regarding him but other than that they've been living their individual lives happily.

Me: I just want my parents to be happy. Clearly staying together isn't doing it, I don't want them staying together on my account either.

He smiles.

San: I've known Woo a long time and since the day you were born making sure you smiled was his first priority. So I agree he's doing this to keep you happy. But he may have missed the mark.

After talking to Mr.San I feel a little better during a movie Beomgyu fell asleep on my shoulder. Mrs.Saelee smiles as she comes back from work.

Saelee: Hey, how are you?
Me: I'm okay. How was work?
Saelee: A little tiring. Did you kids have dinner yet?
Me: No Mr.San said he's gonna' go pick up burgers and fries.

Beomgyu yawns as he begins to wake up.

Saelee: Sup sleeping beauty?
Beomgyu: Not much. What time is it?
Saelee: Six in the evening.

The door opens revealing my dad and Mr.San.

Me: Dad what're you doing here?
Dad: I can't resist a good burger plus I need to talk to you.
Saelee: We'll be in the kitchen setting the table. Come on guys.
San: Oh I was gonna' stay and be nosy.

She grabs his ear dragging him into the kitchen.

Dad: I'm sorry Cheri.
Me: For what?
Dad: Sauni and I have been odds for a while now. As much as I'm tired of fighting with her I know you're tired of hearing it.

I chuckle.

Me: That and I hate seeing you both so drained and upset. It's okay to just walk away now.

He smiles sadly.

Dad: You grew up to be so mature. I wish I was half as mature as you.
Me: Eh, I like my fun immature dad more.
Dad: This weekend your mother and I are going to have a serious talk. I know you're older so getting your own apartment is maybe on your mind but choosing who gang to live with..-
Me: You.

His eyes widen.

Me: You're my best-friend dad

He hugs me.
