CHAPTER TWELVE: WHAT DID YOU DO

"Did you really think the off limits zone had no cameras? Goodness Crustello, I'm disappointed, and even besides what you did, I thought we trained you better than this." Zana scolded me more than she had ever in all my life. She rubbed her forehead, she looked like she hadn't gotten enough sleep in days. Her purple hair was frizzing at the very thought of yelling at me, her face was lined with both rage and disappointment.

"Well I'm not the one covering up the deaths of someone's parents... or are they still alive?" Zana tensed, it was as if I had hit a nerve, she had never been so nervous. Her eyes turned down to the ground, her face suddenly solemn. She looked as if she was struggling with words, well that was a first.

"We just wanted to protect you." She finally squeezed out.

"Like you did with my parents? Our motto is literally no man left behind! Do you really think you were protecting them by leaving them out there by themselves? I can't believe you!" I was infuriated, I had never been so passionate, or sensitive about anything like this in my life. Why had they kept it from him? They were his parents after all, and he deserved to know!

"Look we didn't try to... it was an accident... we tried to save them..." Zana finally blurted out, wow, it was one day and she had already had a loss for words twice! Her face turned from concerned to determined, she took my arm and started dragging me to, oh no not again.
"I already got in trouble once for going in there and I am still suffering the consequences!" I tried to resist but Zana looked me in the eyes.
"Did you want to learn about your parents or not?"
