Night Light

There are monsters in the dark,
Hiding in the shadows.
There are creatures in the dark,
Teeth bared, eyes hallowed.
But they cannot stand the light,
That's why they hide at day.
They cannot stand the light,
Where children laugh and play.

Like the monsters in my mind,
They won't ever leave,
Like the monsters in my mind
That will not leave me be.
But I just need a night light,
One that's bright as day.
I just need a night light,
To keep the monsters away.

So those monsters can't whisper
Awful things in my ear,
Those monsters can't whisper
For only me to hear:
Ugly. Worthless. You're nothing at all.
You're not needed here, go jump and fall.

But I have found my nightlight,
I sleep with it on.
And I can sleep soundly
Now that the monsters are gone.
