It was to be expected that pictures of Elias proposing to me were being released today. The media was having a frenzy. And of course, all the pictures they took of me sobbing were completely unacceptable for my mother. She rang me at six in the morning to complain about how I wasn't crying graciously in the photos they took. The unplanned proposal hadn't ruined the schedule of our arranged marriage and was great timing in fact. We met with our planner today.
From what they say in the movies, girls were planning their dream weddings from a young age. Me? Well, I never really had a choice. I had always known from a young age, I wasn't in control of my choices. I had already known Elias and I was going to spend the rest of our lives together. Although the words used instead of 'arranged' and 'forced' were in fact, 'responsibility'.
My mother referred the planner to a list of acceptable conditions that she wanted. From the wedding attire to the music. In other words, no creative freedom at all.
Elias couldn't care less, agreeing ever so often with the ideas. The only thing he wanted was the wedding to take place in Gleyvania which was understandable. My parents did not care what country they would want the wedding in. It would make it easier for his mother to attend.
King Francis entered the room in his golfing attire. The planner then assumed that it was her cue to leave as King Francis stared at us silently.
"Sorry to interrupt, just going to the event to organise a few things," he said cheerfully as always. "How's the planning going?"
"It's getting there," I said, showing him the notes of the wedding. He flicked through briefly, nodding his head in agreement.
Elias smiled at his father, "How was the train ride over?"
"Fell asleep straight after dinner but it was pleasant, to say the least," King Francis replied.
"Mum doing alright?" Elias asked.
King Francis hesitated, "She's alright."
Elias turned silent. King Francis then left for the event for tonight.
I could tell Elias was worried about his mother. If my relationship was as close with my mother as Elias and his, maybe I could relate to him. Queen Fiona was sweet from my memory of my childhood with her but I hadn't spent enough time with her to grow a close relationship.
"I'm sorry about yesterday by the way," Elias blurted out.
"The proposal was fine, I didn't mind it."
"No, I meant the other thing," he said apologetically, "I wish you told me about it."
"I mean why would I? You don't have to be concerned about me."
