TODAY WAS THE day I was to be married to the love of my life. A few months ago, I was dreading this day to come by but now, I couldn't be more excited.
"You look beautiful, Mary," Queen Fiona commented on my elopement look. She sat smiling in her wheelchair, tubes attached to her body and bags hanging by her side. Her face was thinning but her joy could not be shadowed away.
Four hours of getting ready for the day had paid off. My look was meant to show elegance and it showed. My hair was softly curled to accentuate my natural waves. The coloured powders on my face were lightly covering the little imperfections that tarnished my complexion.
The dress. It was exactly the dress I wanted to get married in. A long sheer sleeved shimmer lace dress that flowed to the ground gracefully. Simple and accented with flowers, much better than the dresses my mother had picked all those months ago.
My mother helped adjust the veil on the top of my head. She then pulled out a bracelet jewelled with blue sapphires. "Here's something blue, Mary. It's a family heirloom so I guess it can also be something old."
"Thanks, Mother."
My father was by my side as the doors opened to the main chapel in Gleyvania. The halls were filled to the brim with family from around the world, our guests and friends. White and purple decorated the hall from top to bottom, a purple carpet stretched from the door to the end of the aisle.
Elias was at the end of the aisle, waiting in anticipation wearing his royal suit. It suited him so well with how it fitted so right on his body. The sheer sight of him sparked my joy for him.
Elizabeth walked in front of me throwing flower petals down the aisle. She looked so adorable as she proudly smiled at her brother.
The walking part was the most nerve-wracking but once I reached him, everything felt at ease. He looked at me in awe and smiled like a child in a toy store.
"You look amazing," he managed to whisper.
The priest went about his duties to bless and wed us. I had blocked out most of what he said, following Elias' lead. I was too distracted by the man in front of me who had plastered a permanent grin on his face. His mouth stopped moving and I realised that it was my turn to say my vows.
"I, Mary Isobella, take the Elias Alessio Matteo, to my wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish till death us do part, I give thee my troth."
He shakingly puts the ring on my finger as I calmly put it on his finger. The priest then finally announced the formal recognition of our marriage.
Elias was officially mine.
"A toast to the groom and bride," Morgan and Kaito both said, being joint best men. They held their champagne glasses high as did everyone else. Mina and Alice had a part in the maid of honour speeches. To no surprise, Alice kept her calm while Mina was fully crying like a river worth of tears.
The wedding reception was more extravagant and larger, a celebration of sorts. Elias and I were showered with praise and congratulations from our guests as we sat at our secluded seats away from everyone else's table. I didn't mind the distance, but it was a bit isolating. I was away from all my friends and family.
In the distance, I observe the table of the rest of the Goldens along with Alice. Mina and Morgan whisper to each other and laugh. Mina playfully touched his shoulder as she burst out laughing. They seemed infatuated with each other, not aware of the two on their table staring at them enviously. Maybe being away from them was a good idea.
"I've never seen such a happy royal couple," King Francis had complimented. He was strolling along with his wife who seemed lively and energetic as her personality showed. Elizabeth who was still dressed in her pretty little flower girl dress was trying to keep her eyes open for the Wedding festivities however it was clearly past her bedtime. "You have a good one son, treat her well."
"Of course, you and mum were," Elias said back. "I take it you're taking Liz to bed?"
"Someone's sugar rush had crashed," Queen Fiona had mentioned.
Elias and I bid his family farewell before being greeted by my brother who I hadn't seen in months.
Martin and one of his potential brides to be, Princess Kelly, came towards us.
"Look at my little sister, all grown up and getting married. Even before me!" he joked. Kelly was trying to fake her smile through her teeth but it was obvious that she didn't want to be there next to my brother. "Welcome to the family, Elias," he said, hugging Elias after me.
"I've always wanted a brother. Having little sisters suck don't they," Elias had joked with Martin dissolving into a cackle. I punched both of them which seemed to shut them up. Martin swiftly left to the joy of the lady on his right.
Elias leaned closer into me, "When can we leave?"
"One more hour." He pouted in disappointment.
He grabbed our plate of cake, scooping a spoonful as he fed me the sweet treat. He wiped away the excess cream with his thumb before licking the rest of it. I scolded him for doing such a thing in public, in front of my parents.
'Crush' by David Archuleta started playing on the dance floor, a song I played all the time when I couldn't express my feelings. Elias seemed to have the same thought by grabbing my hand and dragging me to the dance floor.
His grin while looking down at me struck as the perfect fairytale moment. I snuggled into his chest and let him guide me as he held my waist.
"I can't wait to consummate our marriage? Can't you?" He whispered into my ear.
"I thought we already skipped that step in our relationship?"
"You say 'skipped', I say that we were just practising," he laughed under his breath.
