BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. The annoying sound of a machine irritated my awakening. I looked around and saw that I was in a hospital room, an IV drip by my side. The scent of cleaning supplies was almost nauseating. What happened to me?

"Mary?" Elias yelped out. His voice croaked as he realised I was conscious. He stood from his seat, placed his laptop down beside him, and walked towards me.

Elias grabbed the sides of my face with glee to which I looked back in confusion. "Where am I?"

"The hospital, princess. Someone had poisoned my drink that you drank," he said, his tone laced with anger. His hair was dishevelled and his eyes were tired. He was a mess. A smiling mess. "The bartender had no clue about the poison until they brought him in.

I felt at ease with Elias by my side as the nurse came in to check up on me after I had woken up. It was going to be a few days before I could be discharged. Elias was persistent in wanting to stay with me until I could be let out. It's not like he was doing so already.

Elias' eyes were watching attentively as the nurse did his regular procedures. More at the male nurse than me.

The nurse left the room before the look in Elias' eyes softened. Dramatic. "So, did anyone visit me?"

Elias chuckled. "You haven't seen the security outside of your room, they're intense."

"Not surprised, I did just get poisoned," I said, adjusting my position in the bed. My body ached from the prolonged lack of movement. Elias looked worried to which I waved it off as being fine, which I was.

"Martin came in a few days ago after taking a plane straight from Greece but he went back. Dad and Liz came in from a bit and left those flowers." He pointed towards the extravagant bouquet assortment. "But security will only let the family through."

"My parents?" I asked.

Elias stayed silent for a moment before the door opened and there appeared the devil.

"I arrived as soon as I heard you were awake," Mother had rushed through the door. Her usual stoic face was livid. Great. "How dare you be so reckless? Our lineage could have ended because of you!"

I could tell that Elias was eager to say something to my mother but I had other plans.

Fuck this woman.

"Is that the only thing that you care about?" I yelled. "I nearly fucking died and that's all that you care about."

"Mary Isobella! Don't you use that language on me! I am your mother and furthermore the Queen of our country."

I laughed in disbelief. "Language? You were merely anything more than the person who gave birth to me and put me into this life of constant criticism based on your ideal perception of a daughter. I only listened to you not to make you happy but to ensure that my people of Neathern were safe," I aggressively yelled at her in Neath, the language of Neathern.

"It's only because I want the best from you," she defended. Bullshit.

"Is that why I can't look at myself in the mirror and feel good about myself? How I think about every single action carefully because I have to think of you! I listen to you all the time yet you fail to even bat an eye when I wish for something! I hate myself because of it."

Mother stood there speechless. "Very well. I'll leave you to it. Elias, make sure she returns to full health."

Elias stood up and walked her out. He came back to me with a confused look. "What was that about? Sounded very angry," he asked.
