CHAPTER 1

PACK HOUSE

I OPENED MY eyes and sighed heavily. I tilt my head and when my gaze darted outside my window a small smile crept on my lips but later on my smile faded and is now replaced with a bitter one.

It's another day, Rees. You got to get up and do what you got to do.

I sighed again and fixed my bed before going to the bathroom. After fixing myself I went out and went to the kitchen. And there, I found my Mama Sanya and Papa Maldo with their cup of tea.

"Magandang umaga, po," bati ko.

Agad namang nag-angat ng tingin sa'kin sina mama at papa. "Rees, ang aga mo naman nagising," sabi ni Mama Sanya. "Pero tamang-tama at katatapos ko lang magluto. Kumain ka na," dagdag niya sabay kuha ng pinggan.

"Bakit isang pinggan lang po, ma? Kayo po ni Papa Maldo?"

"Hindi na, 'nak. Sa taniman na lang kami kakain. Marami kasing trabaho ngayon doon. Mas mabuti kung maaga kaming pupunta para maaga rin kaming matapos. Para sabay ulit tayong kumain mamayang gabi," paliwanag naman ni papa.

I smiled and nodded my head in response. But before eating my food I helped them prepare their things.

"Salamat, 'nak. Isarado mo ang pinto at 'wag kang basta-basta magpapasok ng hindi mo kakilala," paalala ni Mama Sanya bago ito tuluyang lumabas ng bahay.

I waved them goodbye before I closed and locked the door. Then I went back to the kitchen to eat my food. After breakfast, I did my usual routines.

After doing my chores I decided to go outside for fresh air. Bago ako lumabas ay napansin kong lanta na ang mga bulaklak sa vase. So I decided to get flowers in the woods.

Nakahiligan ko na kasing kumuha ng iba't-ibang klase ng bulaklak para ilagay na palamuti sa loob ng bahay. Gusto ko rin kasi ang amoy ng bahay 'pag may mga bulaklak.

I started picking flowers upon reaching the woods.

After picking flowers I decided to rest under a big oak tree. Then I started asking questions again.

Who am I?

What happened to me before they found me in the river?

Wala kasi talaga akong maalala tungkol sa naging buhay ko rati. Kahit anong pilit ko ay wala. Umaasa akong kahit sa panaginip ay may makuha akong sagot pero wala pa rin.

I felt hopeless and frustrated at the same time. According to Mama Sanya, a man found me in a river in Preousia, unconscious. The man does not know what to do so he asked for help.

It was my Papa Maldo whom he asked for help since they were friends. Papa Maldo and Mama Sanya took me to their home, here in Xynmorth. They took care of me and a week after, I regained consciousness.

I was hysterical when I woke up and everything in me hurt. Takot na takot ako noon lalong-lalo na at hindi ako pamilyar sa paligid ko.

When I tried to remember what happened, beads of sweat suddenly dripped on my forehead. I was frantic and terrified when I realized I couldn't remember anything, not even my own name.

That day, I cried so hard and I saw how worried they were. They tried to calm me down but I was too devasted knowing that I lost my memories.

Hanggang sa bigla na lang akong nawalan ng malay sa kakaiyak. Paggising ko kinabukasan ay ang isang hindi pamilyar na babae ang bumungad sa'kin.

I found out that she is the only daughter of Mama Sanya and Papa Maldo. Her name is Corinne and she was in her early thirties at that time.

Kinausap nila ako ulit at doon ko na sinabi na wala akong natatandaan na kahit ano. After telling them what happened, mama and papa told me how and where they found me. They even told me that I have a deep wound on my chest.
