SEALED MEMORIES

I DIDN'T KNOW how long I stayed in that place. She was worried when she saw me. She then bid her goodbye to Aling Calliope, who seemed to be worried about me as well.

On our way home, she asked me questions, but I couldn't tell her the truth; instead, I told her I wasn't feeling well because of the heat.

I feel bad and guilty because I know I owe her an explanation.

As I lay down in bed, my thoughts began to wander. I closed my eyes and recall what happened earlier.

"That day, you begged me to seal your memories. Because you couldn't bear the agony, you wished for your memories to fade. You desired to be free of the things that caused you misery. However, you cannot simply make them disappear. So instead of taking them away, I sealed your memories right after I healed you."

Hindi ako makapagsalita. Bigla na lang akong nakaramdam ng panlalamig. Then I felt bitter. What she said is impossible. How can I wish for something like that?

"That's absurd. I can not just beg you to seal my memories. Impossible!" I told her while shaking my head.

"I have told you the truth. Go ahead and close your mind to it. I will not force you to believe me." She shrugged.

"You said--- You said after you healed me... you sealed my memories. Does this mean you were there when I got into an accident?"

"I found you floating in the water." She sighed deeply after saying this. "I can't stay here much longer. Come see me in the western part of the woods if you want to know more. I'll tell you everything, and if you're ready, I'll break the seal."

I closed my eyes because I couldn't speak. I'm still on the ground, unmoving.

"If you have already made up your mind, you know where to find me."

After she said those, she left.

"Aunt Rees!"

I was awakened from my deep thoughts when I heard a little voice from outside my room. Despite the turmoil that has been going on in my head, I found myself smiling upon hearing that cute little voice.

I opened the door and Danae instantly jumped and encircled her arms around my waist.

I chuckled and then I carried her. "I miss you, Danae," I murmured and kissed her on her cheek.

"Rees! Mabuti at nakauwi ka ngayon. Miss ka na ni Danae," sabi ni ate na nakangiti.

"Pasensya na po. Masyado ko kasing ginugol ang sarili ko sa trabaho," sabi ko sa kanya.

"Kumusta naman sa pack house, Rees. Maayos ba ang trato ng Alpha sa inyo?" tanong ni Kuya Harson.

A small smile crept on my lips as I think about the Alpha. "Oo, kuya. Despite his indifference to normal beings, he's actually treating us well," I told him honestly.

"That's good to hear then. I was really worried when you started working there because you have human blood in you," sabi naman ni ate.

"Maayos po ang lagay ko sa pack house kaya huwag po kayong masyadong mabahala," sabi ko.

They have no knowledge about what happened in the village. It was the Alpha who insisted on keeping the matter from my family and I'm glad he did.

I don't want to worry them too much, especially Mama Sanya and Papa Maldo.
